Moscow Railway Station Nizhny Novgorod — Central Station Gorky Railway, the passenger terminal at Gorky-Moskovsky Station.
The Gorky-Moskovsky Station is a major hub in the Russian railway network. This is due to historical circumstances: after the railroad was built to St. Petersburg the second railroad to Russia was laid in Nizhny Novgorod, to the famous Nizhny Novgorod Yarmarka.
This route remains just as important today: most passenger trains pass through Nizhny Novgorod on their way to Moscow, to the Urals, to Siberia, as well as to Mongolia and China.
About the Train Station
The first station building was constructed in 1862. The current station building was constructed in 1965 by architect S. Gotlib. It consists of two interconnected wings. In designing the facade facing the station square, the architects used vertical pilasters to give the building a more monumental appearance—a technique that became widespread under the influence of the architecture of Moscow’s Palace of Congresses.
