Mobile Solutions (solmo.ru) — website of the Nizhny Novgorod closed joint-stock company "Mobile Solutions" (Mobilnye Resheniya), a developer of automated energy-metering systems. It operated from at least 2000; the web archive's last accesses to the domain date to 2024. The company was based in Nizhny Novgorod at Chaadaev Street[7]. In its early years the site was less a storefront than an open library on energy metering: software, documentation, and the "Concept of Using Digital Technologies in Electricity Metering" were offered for free download[1].

The 2001 site: an open library of energy metering

The earliest saved copy of the home page is dated April 1, 2001. The page title read "Energy Metering Technologies / Mobile Solutions CJSC," and the company described itself as a "Russian company — a developer of digital energy-metering technologies"; the header carried an ENGLISH link[1].

The menu was arranged more like the table of contents of an industry reference than a corporate site: "News," "About the Company," "Ideology," "History," "Address," "Areas of Activity," "For Investors," "Power2000 ASKUE Systems," "Payment System (Smart)," "Certificate RU.C.34.011.A (download)," "Electricity Meters," "Equipment for ASKUE," "Price List and Catalog," "SOLMO Systems," "Question of the Day," "Project MIDAS," "Feasibility Study for Meter Deployment," "Tariffs in N. Novgorod," "Projects," "Customers and Partners," "Blacklist Project!," "We're Hiring," "Questions and Answers"[1]. A separate item was devoted to tariffs in Nizhny Novgorod[1].

The "SOLMO Systems" section offered to "freely take individual programs and entire systems for study and research" for working with meters and organizing ASKUE; it also hosted the 7 MB "Concept of Using Digital Technologies in Electricity Metering"[1]. The company invited others to send in their own developments and articles and promised: "We undertake to post them on our server and provide free access to them"[1]. Consultations, the home page stated, were also given free of charge, and the contact address listed was Info@Solmo.ru[1].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

In the Counter.nn.ru rating, the site was listed under the name "Energy Metering Technologies, R&D, Electricity Meters" with the description "Development and deployment of advanced energy-metering technologies, modern electricity meters, ASKUE systems, smart cards"[2]. As of August 24, 2000, it held tenth place in the "Science and Education" category: the counter showed 194, the rating — 4.40[2]. By September 30 of that year the counter had grown to 445, the rating to 7.71, and the site stood at 204th place in the overall rating, HardNews (hardnews.nn.ru) and the "Nizhny Novgorod Goods" catalog[3]. These same figures are evidence that the site was already operating in 2000, six months before the earliest copy saved by the web archive[1].

A listing for the site also appeared in the directory of the nn.ru portal — under the short name "Energy Metering" and the description "Means of measuring energy consumption." In the "Firms (Enterprises)" section it appeared in three categories at once: "Fuel and Energy"[4], "Other Equipment"[5], and "Electrical Equipment"[6]. The "Rating" column in all three listings remained empty — "none"[4]. For the Nizhny Novgorod Internet of those years, this was the steady presence of a narrow industry site: it was seen and catalogued, but never climbed to the top of the ratings.

The 2011 corporate site

By September 2011, the library had been replaced by a corporate storefront with the subtitle "Development of Automated Energy Resource Monitoring and Metering Systems"[7]. The top menu addressed the visitor by job title: "Chief Engineer," "Chief Power Engineer," "Head of a Management Company," "General Director / Financial Director"[7]. Below were the sections "about the company," "technology, products," "deployments, services," "contacts," "answers," "Articles," "feedback," "hotline," "price list," "demo version," "Events," and "map of our customers"[7]. The product line consisted of four systems: Solmo-3 Enero, Solmo-3 Industrial, Solmo-3 ProLink, and Solmo-3 SmartBox[7].

As the home page stated, the company "has for ten years successfully been developing and deploying specialized software, technology, and equipment" for building ASKUE and ASKUTER energy-metering systems[7]. The single news item on the page concerned Nizhny Novgorod: it reported that "the presentation of the first project in Russia to integrate an energy-metering system with a billing system took place" (spelling as in the source) in Nizhny Novgorod; the headline called it the first implemented housing-and-utilities project of its kind in Russia[7].

The footer listed contact details: 603035, Nizhny Novgorod, 2 Chaadaeva Street, phone numbers +7 (8-831) 272-1612 and 272-1932; the email address was written in Cyrillic — "инфо@солмо.ру"[7]. It also carried a "2007" copyright notice — the template had not been updated in four years[7]. Amid the site's own sections, the page text also contained lines unrelated to energy metering: "Laser metal cutting," "custom website development in St. Petersburg," "effective website promotion in search engines"[7].

How it closed

The September 28, 2011 snapshot is the latest copy of the working site in the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating[7]. Later, only blank pages remain at the address in the web archive: the June 26, 2024 snapshot contains neither a title nor text[8]. The web archive's last accesses to the domain date to August 2024; at the time this encyclopedia's corpus was surveyed, solmo.ru appeared to be a parked or blank page — there is no working site at this address. What became of the CJSC "Mobile Solutions" itself cannot be traced from the available snapshots.
