marketaudit.r52.ru was the site of the Nizhny Novgorod auditing firm "Marketaudit - NN," which operated as a third-level presence on the Nizhny Novgorod portal R52. The firm presented itself there as a limited liability company registered by the Nizhny Novgorod Registration Chamber (certificate No. 3366)[1]. The earliest known web-archive snapshot of the home page is dated December 4, 2000[1], and the last snapshot with substantive text is from June 4, 2002[3]; on March 9, 2005, the address returned a hosting service page about an unconfigured virtual host[4]. According to our data, the domain no longer works.
What the firm did
The home page served both as a business card and as a list of services. The firm stated that it held a license for general auditing activity, No. 002999, entered into the license register on November 23, 1999, on the basis of Order No. 311 of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, and issued on February 23, 2000[1].
As the home page stated, working with the firm gave the client "the opportunity for ongoing qualified consultations," help resolving possible problems with the tax inspectorate, identification and correction of accounting errors, audit examinations with issued findings, help developing the business, legal assistance in arbitration, and the setting up of the "operation of business-process mechanisms"[1]. The same page promised complete confidentiality of information, a comprehensive solution to enterprises' financial, economic, and administrative problems, and the conduct of financial and production audits[1]. The home page gives neither the names of specialists nor the firm's address and phone numbers: we have snapshots only of it.
How the site was structured
The home page's menu consisted of twelve items: "about the firm," "our specialists," "hotline," "auditing services," "consulting services," "legal services," "new in services," "questionnaire," "seminar," "new in legislation," "E-mail," and "how to find us"[1]. We have not seen the contents of these sections: we have only snapshots of the home page.
At the bottom of the page stood a copyright notice, "© Marketaudit - NN," and the developer's signature — "Web-designed by Teamoty Brane Inc."[1]. In the 2002 snapshot, a "site management" link was added at this spot; otherwise the home page's text did not change over the year and a half[3].
Between the two substantive snapshots, the site was out of service at least once: on September 29, 2001, the address served the host portal's placeholder page — "R52 - work in progress" with the text "We apologize, our site is currently under construction. Please check back later!" and a link "Return to the R52 portal"[2].
Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet
The domain entered our list of Nizhny Novgorod sites from the nn.ru directory (section /rub/), where "Marketaudit - NN" was listed with the description "Auditing, consulting, and legal services." In the surviving samples of the Counter.nn.ru rating, which underlie our Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating, this address does not appear: our data show neither a rating nor votes for it. In the final voting table of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day, preserved in December 2004, the domain marketaudit.r52.ru is likewise absent[5] — though by that time, judging by the snapshots, the site was already out of service.
How it closed
After June 2002 there are no substantive home-page snapshots in the web archive. On March 9, 2005, the address returned a service page: "The domain name www.marketaudit.r52.ru points to this IP address, but the virtual host is not configured," signed "R52.RU Administration"[4]. This is the last snapshot of the site in the web archive. The surviving pages contain no announcement of closure and no indication of a move; they likewise say nothing about the firm's further fate.
The site remains part of the history of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet of the early 2000s: a firm's presence on the local portal, filled once with a list of services and licenses, and then vanishing along with its hosting.
