Little Venice — a project under development for the arrangement of the Nizhny Novgorod agglomeration in the bed of the Cheboksary Reservoir.

Under this project it is planned to complete a ring of water around the Zarechnaya part of Nizhny Novgorod by building 46 km of new canals and restoring those once filled in. The rivers that flow through Zarechye will be cut off from the Oka at their mouths by ten-metre dams, and pumps will raise the water to a height of 5 m. As of 2012 the cost of the works was estimated at 24 billion roubles.

Dzerzhinsk is to be separated from the Oka by two non-navigable canals.

The main problem for the hydraulic builders is where to put millions of cubic metres of algae broth.
