Krasnooktyabrskiy District (or Kyzyl Oktyabr' Rayony in Tatar) is located in the southeastern part of Nizhny Novgorod Region. It borders the Sergachsky District, Pilninskiy District, Bolsheboldinsky District, Sechenovskiy, and Gaginsky District Districts of the Region, as well as the Republic of Mordovia.
The administrative center of the district is the selo of Urazovka, located 180 kilometers from the regional capital.
Population
The population of the district (as of 2009) is 11,918 people.
The majority of the district's population consists of Tatars. Russians, Mordva, and representatives of other nationalities also reside in the district.
History of Foundation
The district was established on July 12, 1929, when a Tatar district was organized with its center in the selo of Kochko-Pozharki. In 1932, the district was renamed Kyzyl-Oktyabrsky, and the district center was moved to the selo of Urazovka. The district consisted entirely of Tatar villages.
After the 1930s, the Kyzyl-Oktyabrsky District underwent numerous territorial reorganizations and changes. In 1944, the district was divided into two districts: the Kyzyl-Oktyabrsky District with its center in the selo of Urazovka, and the Petryaksinsky District with its center in the selo of Petryaksy. In 1957, these two districts were reunited into the Kyzyl-Oktyabrsky District. In 1962, the district was abolished, and its territory was merged into Sergachsky District.
In 1965, Sergachsky District was divided into three districts: Spassky, Sergachsky, and Krasnooktyabrsky. Only 50% of the villages of the former Kyzyl-Oktyabrsky District were included in Krasnooktyabrsky District.
