Here you'll find general guidelines on how to write your own articles and edit others' articles. If you follow even a few of them, you can expect the article to improve.

First and foremost. THE ENCYCLOPEDIA IS YOUR FRIEND! Edit other people’s articles and create your own if you have “something to say,” if you understand (in your opinion) the essence of the issue, or if you know better than what’s already been written. Remember, you can always revert any changes to a previous version. So you can always correct any mistake, malicious intent, or accidental nonsense.

  • Here at the "Nizhny Novgorod Encyclopedia," article titles may be written ONLY in Russian. That is, exclusively using the Cyrillic alphabet. In any case, the title must begin with a Russian letter. Please keep this in mind when creating articles.
  • There is no need to include the words "Nizhny Novgorod" or "Nizhegorodskaya" in the titles. This is already implied, since we Nizhny Novgorod Encyclopedia.
    Therefore, there is no need to write "Sovetsky District of Nizhnego Novgoroda."

  • If a phenomenon or place has a common name, use that name. We say "Pokrovka", rather than "Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russian Federation"; of course, the full name should also be included in the article. But it's better for the title to be short and clear.
  • We simply list all the names as "Street" Zvezdinka Street, Freedom Square. No need for anything fancy.
  • We also write people's names in the Russian style: that is, Last Name, First Name, Middle Name. However, if the last name is well known, you can use just the last name.

It is possible and advisable to create redirect pages. For example, the page Sormovo District and Sormovo District lead to the same place.

  • If you want certain information to appear in the article, go ahead and edit the article to add it. If you make a mistake, someone will correct you. Please don’t whine in the comments asking for this or that information to be added to the article; remember, everyone is busy with their own things.
  • As a general rule, if an outside reader is unable to glean any useful information from an article, that article has no place in the Nizhny Novgorod Encyclopedia, and sooner or later the inevitable will happen—it will be deleted.
  • Don't overuse clichés. Write in an interesting and varied way. Show off your talent.

Beginning of the article

The article begins with its title, in bold. Alternative pronunciations, etymology, and translations are listed in italics. This is followed by a brief—and, ideally, clear to everyone—explanation of the article’s subject. No more than a couple of sentences. Then comes the rest of the article. You can include a separate section explaining the subject of the article if it’s a long story.

The rest of the article

Oh, it could be anything here. However, typical sections include “history” (see above), similar phenomena or variations, examples, a quote from the original, an explanation of the Meme’s essence, an analysis of the phenomenon (unfortunately, rare), and trivia.

End of the article

As needed, but almost always—the “notes” section for the “references” tag, “see also” sections, internal links, links to Wikipedia, and general links to Internets—either mixed together or listed separately.

Miscellaneous

  • Next come templates such as {{wiki-box}} and {{good-box}}, as well as the "See also" navigation. Navigation templates should be separated from the main body of the article by two blank lines.
  • Next come the categories. It's best to have at least two: <MEME type>, for example [[Category:Places]] [[Category:Conventions]]

External Links

It's best to place individual links directly under the words they refer to. But if there are a lot of links—thousands of them, for example, if there's a huge number of links—then it's better to number them, like on Wikipedia: [1], [2], [3].
References can be enclosed in the <ref> tag.

Links to articles within our encyclopedia are created as follows:

Pictures

Do not write “see Fig. 1,” “as shown in the image on the right,” and so on. Describe in your own words what the image illustrates. Also, it’s best to keep image captions short.
It's best to use the ready-made template {{photo|Image name.jpg|Description}}
To ensure the image is positioned correctly within the section, it’s best to insert it right at the beginning. Also, if the “edit” links disappear, it’s likely because there are too many images in the previous section. Move some of them to the next section or use <br clear="both"> before the section (which might actually be better, since everyone has different screen resolutions, and at a resolution like 2048×1536, everything will line up properly).
If the images are arranged in a "column," it's best to make sure they all have the same width.

Video

It's easier to upload a video to YouTube and embed it as a video using a template .

Accompanying Information

On the page image upload It's also a good idea to include some text—that way, it (the image) will be easier to find later (by the way, you can do this in the corresponding text field when uploading the image).

It is VERY likely that an immediate ban with no right to appeal will be imposed for:

  • Deleting the content of articles entirely or to a significant extent without explanation, or replacing it with meaningful statements ranging from the same *nonsense* to *you're all idiots and there's no cure for you*
  • Restoring deleted articles in the exact form in which they were deleted, as well as attempts to circumvent blocked article titles by making minor changes to their titles.
  • Creating articles that consist entirely of nonsense, or adding such nonsense to existing articles.
  • Persistent and unfounded rollbacks of edits by moderators and deletion tags. This behavior is a very clear sign of a clinical idiot—since any reasonably sane person understands perfectly well that a moderator has far more options, and there’s no point in trying to outmaneuver them in an edit war.
  • And, in general, any behavior along the lines of “I act first, and only then do I think about what I’ve done.”
