Gorodetsky District is a municipal district of Nizhny Novgorod Region, formed on the basis of the former Gorodetsky District. The administrative center is Gorodets. The district includes the cities of Gorodets and Zavolzhye, the urban-type settlement of Pervomaysky, and a number of rural localities, including the Smolkovsky rural council.

Administrative Changes

In the Smolkovsky rural council of Gorodetsky District, the Oskordino village are to be abolished from 2027: they will be merged into the selo of Smolki. From 1 January 2027, the village of Sosnovskoye in the Nikolo-Pogostinsky rural council of Gorodetsky District will be reclassified as a khutor.[1] The merger decision was made with the aim of creating conditions for the territory to participate in the gas-supply extension program.

Incidents and Legal Cases

In August 2026, the director of a Nizhny Novgorod company was charged with fraud in connection with the reconstruction of biological wastewater treatment facilities on the territory of Gorodetsky District. The alleged damage amounted to more than 43 million rubles. From 1 January 2027, the village of Yagodnoye in Gorodetsky District will be granted the status of a selo — the corresponding law was signed by the Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region in August 2026, and the decision was adopted by deputies of the Regional Legislative Assembly in July 2026.[2][1]
