Gorodetskaya volost was an administrative-territorial unit within the Nizhny Novgorod Governorate, existing during the pre-revolutionary and early Soviet periods. The volost was located Gorodets and formed part of Balakhna Uyezd.
Industrial History
In the early eighteenth century, a large anchor plant emerged on the territory of Gorodetskaya volost, becoming one of the region's notable industrial enterprises. This production fit into the broader picture of active economic development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region: during the same period, iron and steel plants belonging to the Demidovs appeared Vorotynets, while shipbuilding, salt-making, and metalworking were expanding Volga Region.
Notable Natives
In the selo of Prokofyevo in Gorodetskaya volost, fighter pilot and twice Hero of the Soviet Union Arseniy Vasilyevich Vorozheykin (1912–2001) was born. Having lost his father early — killed in the First World War — he knew poverty, worked at a sawmill and as a sailor on a guard ship, before being drafted into the Red Army in 1931.
