The State Order of the Badge of Honor Museum of A. M. Gorky is a cultural institution of Nizhny Novgorod that unites three independent branch museums dedicated to the life and work of the writer Alexei Maximovich Gorky. The museum is the first literary museum to be opened in the birthplace of the writer M. Gorky.[2] The administrative address is Minina Street.[1]
Composition
The museum comprises three branches:[1]
- Literary Museum — located at Minin Street, 26; the administrative office of the association is also situated here. As of 2026, the Literary Museum is closed for repair and restoration works.[2]
- A. M. Gorky Apartment Museum — Semashko Street.
- Museum of Gorky's Childhood "Kashirin's House" — Postal Convention; opened on 1 January 1938 in the house of the writer's grandfather, Nizhny Novgorod townsman Vasily Vasilyevich Kashirin. The building is a monument of history and culture of federal significance. The museum regularly holds the International Academic Conference "Gorky Readings": its XLII edition is planned for 2026.[2][1]
Place in the Memory of Gorky
The museum is part of the circle of Nizhny Novgorod sites that commemorate the writer. Alongside it, the Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Drama Theatre has borne Gorky's name since 1944; streets and Gorky Square exist in the city and the region, as does the Gorky House of Culture.[1]
