Fire at the Allur Equestrian Club — a major blaze that occurred on July 29, 2026, on Zelenkkhozovskaya Street in Avtozavodsky District of Nizhny Novgorod. The fire effectively destroyed the club: six animals perished, and dozens of horses were left without shelter.

Course of the Fire

The fire broke out around noon on July 29 in the hay storage building of the stables and spread to the club's other structures within minutes.[1] The fire covered an area of approximately 1,500 square meters. Around 60 rescue workers were deployed to the scene.[1] Four people were evacuated from the building; Firefighters.[2] Open burning was extinguished by 19:29 that same day, and the fire was fully put out on the morning of July 30.[1] The causes of the incident have been referred to investigators for determination.[1]

Animals Killed and Injured

Six animals perished in the fire — three horses and three ponies that had been kept in the training stable; among them were children's favorites from the club's youth section.[3] According to nn.ru, four horses and two ponies died in the fire — a slightly different breakdown by species than reported in initial publications, though the total number of fatalities (six) is the same.[4] Club staff, risking their own lives, managed to save 69 horses from the two main stables.[3] Many of the surviving animals sustained injuries and burns and required treatment and medication.[1]

Aftermath and Assistance

Following the fire, all 69 rescued horses were promptly distributed among other equestrian clubs in the city. Around 40 of them, including a pony named Aquamarine, were taken in by the Passage Equestrian Complex, where the animals were housed in summer stalls and provided with water, feed, training facilities, and paddocks for exercise.[3] However, the horses will not be able to overwinter in summer stalls, so the Allur management set a minimum goal: to bring at least the club's training horses home by winter and resume classes for the children's section.[3]

At the fire site, volunteers helped clear the debris. Hundreds of people offered assistance — athletes, horse owners, and simply Residents of Nizhny Novgorod.[3] Club representatives appealed to city residents for help with treating the animals and finding them temporary shelter until winter.[1] An nn.ru article published on August 5, 2026, ran under the headline "Time Is Very Short," reflecting the urgency of finding winter accommodation for the rescued animals.[4] The material damage from the fire had yet to be assessed at the time of publication.[3]

About the Club

The children's equestrian section was Allur's primary activity, with more than 200 children enrolled.[3] At the time of the fire, the club housed at least 75 animals — horses and ponies kept across several stables and a hay storage building.
