Studyonaya Street — one of the oldest streets in Nizhny Novgorod, known under this name since the beginning of the 17th century; it linked the gate towers of the Great and Lesser ostrogs (stockaded forts).

The regular town plans of Nizhny Novgorod of the 18th century envisaged its demolition, but its within-block alignment survived right up to 1804.

Under the 1823-1824 plan by A. A. Betancourt and W. Heste, a straight Studyonaya Street was designed for the first time on the site of the old development, running from Kholodny Lane to the city boundary; its building lines were substantially refined by the confirmed plan of Nizhny Novgorod of 1839. The street itself was laid out as far as the new city limits (up to the future Belinsky Street Street (Napolnaya).
