Boris Alekseyevich Korolev

Korolev, Boris Alekseyevich (1909–2010) — head of the Department of Hospital Surgery at the Medical Faculty of the Gorky Medical Institute named after S. M. Kirov, professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Hero of Socialist Labour, Honoured Scientist of the RSFSR, full member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. He was a delegate to the 23rd Congress of the CPSU, and was elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and a deputy of the Gorky Regional Soviet of People's Deputies for several terms.

Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy (1934), surgeon.

Career

1934–1935 — resident surgeon at Hospital No. 6; 1935–1936 — assistant at the Department of Operative Surgery, surgeon at Hospital No. 7; from 1939 — assistant, then associate professor; from 1951 — professor.

Research Interests

General surgery, pulmonary and cardiac surgery.

State Awards

Silver Medal of the USSR Exhibition of Economic Achievements (VDNKh) "For Achievements in Cardiac Surgery." USSR Inventor's Medal "For Outstanding Success in the Work of the USSR School"; medals named after Academicians A. N. Bakulev, V. I. Burakovsky, and N. I. Pirogov. Laureate of the Nizhny Novgorod Prize (1995 and 2002). Two Orders of Lenin, the Gold Star of Hero of Socialist Labour, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, the Order of the October Revolution, 7 medals. Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. "Person of the Year" (Scientific Centre for Surgery, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, 1994). Honorary Academician of the Eurasian Academy of Sciences.

The title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Gorky" was conferred by resolution of the Gorky City Soviet of Working People's Deputies on 17 June 1976.
