Bolsheboldinsky District is located in the southeast of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, 250 km from the regional capital, and borders Krasnooktyabrskiy, Gaginsky District, Lukoyanovskiy District, and Pochinkovskiy District Districts, as well as the Republic of Mordovia. The administrative center of the Bolsheboldinsky municipal formation is the selo of Bolshoe Boldino. The district's population numbers 12,500 people, of whom 5,100 reside in the district center — Bolshoe Boldino.
The Boldino land is a region of traditional crafts: pottery, weaving, wickerwork, and woodcarving. Today, folk trades are being revived here, along with the historical and cultural traditions of the Erzya population of Bolsheboldinsky District. Bolshoe Boldino and its surroundings, with their fertile agricultural lands, clean water, and pristine landscapes, attract investors and numerous visitors. The most popular tourist centers and points of interest are the villages of Bolshoe Boldino and Lvovka, the Luchinnik grove, the Erzya selo of Pikshen, and the nature reserves in the villages of Chernovskoye, Novaya Sloboda, and Apraksino.
