Akhmetshin Ayrat Sayetovich (born January 18, 1973, Kazan) — Russian investigator, Lieutenant General of Justice (from June 11, 2021). From December 2019 to August 2026, he headed the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.[1][5]

Career in investigative bodies

In 1995, Akhmetshin graduated from Kazan State University named after V. I. Ulyanov-Lenin with a degree in Law.[5] From 1999, he served in the prosecutorial bodies of the Republic of Tatarstan: working as an investigator, senior investigator of the prosecutor's office, assistant and senior assistant to the prosecutor of the Moskovsky District of Kazan, and deputy prosecutor of the Novo-Savinsky District of Kazan.[5] From 2007 to 2010, he held the position of head of the Zarechensky inter-district investigative department of the Investigative Committee under the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Tatarstan.[5]

In 2010, he was appointed deputy head of the IC of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan.[1][5] In 2017, he became head of the Investigative Directorate of the IC of Russia for Kirov Region.[2][5] By Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 583 of December 6, 2019, he was appointed head of the Investigative Directorate of the IC of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod Region.[5] In December 2024, his tenure in this position was extended for another five years.[1][2]

Awards and ranks

By Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 355 of June 11, 2021, Akhmetshin was awarded the senior special rank of Lieutenant General of Justice.[5] He holds the honorary titles of "Honored Lawyer of the Republic of Tatarstan," "Honorary Lawyer of Kirov Region," "Honorary Employee of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation," as well as the title conferred by the Regional Legislative Assembly of "Honored Employee of the Law Enforcement Agencies of Nizhny Novgorod Region."[5]

He has been awarded the medals "For Excellence," "For Irreproachable Service" 2nd and 3rd class, "300 Years of Russia's First Investigative Chancellery," "For Merit," "For Diligence in Service," "For Loyalty to Duty," "75 Years of Victory in the The Great Patriotic War," "10 Years of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation," "70 Years of the Forensic Service," and the jubilee medal "In Memory of the 800th Anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod." He has also been honored with the distinction badge "Excellence in Investigative Bodies" and the honorary badge of Kirov Region for "Valor and Diligence."[5]

Departure from the post in Nizhny Novgorod Region

In August 2026, Akhmetshin left his position as head of the Investigative Directorate of the IC of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod Region. No official announcement of his resignation was published; the change in leadership was indicated by the disappearance of his name from the "Authority" section on the regional directorate's website.[1][3][4] Aleksandr Dynkov, who has been part of the regional directorate's leadership since 2020, is listed as Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.[1][3] According to the Tatarstan outlet Business Online, Akhmetshin's next posting is expected to be the position of Chief Federal Inspector for the Republic of Tatarstan; however, no official confirmation of this appointment had been received.[3][4]
