omron.r52.ru was the site of the Nizhny Novgorod company "OMRON-Povolzhye," the official representative of the Japanese medical company OMRON in the Volga region. The contact block on the home page listed the address "Russian Federation, 603001, N. Novgorod, Torgovaya St., 12," the phone numbers (8312) 78 06 84 and 78 06 89, and the email omron@r52.ru[1]. The copyright notice in the page footer counted from the year 2000[1][2]. According to our Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating, the web archive preserved 41 snapshots at this address: the first dated February 5, 2002, the last May 25, 2009.

What the site looked like

The preserved text of the home page opens with a header bearing the name "OMRON Povolzhye" and the line "Official representative of OMRON in the Volga region," followed by a list of sections: "Home," "About the Company," "Our News," "We Invite You!," "Products," then "Blood Pressure Monitors," "Inhalers," "Massagers," "Professional Equipment," then "How to Choose a Blood Pressure Monitor?!," "Price List," "For the Curious," "Let's Cooperate!," "Questions and Answers," and "Feedback"[1]. Right after the menu came the contact block with the address, both phone numbers, and the email address[1]. A separate "Please Note" insert announced the appearance of the "For the Curious" section: the page promised articles of interest not only to professionals but also to those "who care about their own health and the health of their loved ones"[1]. The page ended with the developer's signature — "made in www.garbuz.net"[1]. There are no visitor counters in the preserved text of the home page.

What the company offered

The list of medical devices on the home page was divided into four groups. For self-measurement of blood pressure it offered automatic, semi-automatic, and wrist devices; for treating respiratory illnesses — compression nebulizers, ultrasonic inhalers, peak flow meters, and spacers; for wellness therapy and self-monitoring — massagers (myostimulators), body fat monitors, digital thermometers, and a pedometer; for professional use — mechanical blood pressure monitors and stethophonendoscopes[1]. A separate block titled "Revolutionary Blood Pressure Measurement System" was devoted to the Intellisense system: the page called it a fundamentally new OMRON development that manages the measurement process and ensures an individual approach to each measurement[1].

Besides sales, the company announced on the site two additional services for customers: free servicing of OMRON devices for the entire service life, called the first such service in Nizhny Novgorod, and the launch of an "OMRON hotline" at the same phone numbers, 78-06-84 and 78-06-89[1].

The news feed on the home page had five entries from 2003–2004[1]. On December 30, 2003, a social campaign, "No to Hypertension!," was announced, with a semi-automatic OMRON MX blood pressure monitor sold for 999 rubles; on January 23, 2004, the OMRON 773 blood pressure monitor was presented, with a cuff allowing measurements for everyone — "from young to old"; on March 25, 2004, the company reported that it was holding consultations on using OMRON devices and measuring blood pressure with electronic monitors free of charge; on July 28, 2004, it presented oscillometric blood pressure monitors with E.R.A. (easy-reading angle) technology — an ergonomic display tilt angle; on December 22, 2004, it announced a charity campaign under which part of the proceeds from selling electronic blood pressure monitors from December 1 to January 15 went to help the children of the Pravdinsky orphanage[1].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

The site entered our sample of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet from the nn.ru directory, where it was listed as "OMRON Medical Equipment Nizhny Novgorod" with the description "Official trade representative of the Japanese medical company Omron." Our sample has no Counter.nn.ru counter data for it: both the rating and the vote count are recorded as zero. Judging by the preserved home page, the address remained a trading company's showcase: the sections described the company and its products, while interaction with the visitor was limited to the "Questions and Answers" and "Feedback" items[1].

Move and closure

By August 2006 the company had changed its domain zone. The snapshot of www.omron.r52.ru from August 13, 2006, contains neither the menu nor the list of devices: in place of the site there remained a single line — "The site of OOO 'OMRON-Povolzhye' has moved. New address http://www.omron.nnov.ru"[2]. The header with the company name, the copyright notice, and the developer's signature, however, were preserved[2].

A snapshot of the address without the www prefix, dated May 25, 2009, by contrast preserved the full version of the site — with all the menu sections, the list of devices, and the news feed, whose most recent entry dates to December 22, 2004[1]. In other words, the old version at omron.r52.ru continued to be served for several more years after visitors to the www address began being redirected to the new site, but it was no longer updated. This snapshot proved to be the last one: there are no later entries for the domain in the web archive, and in our sample omron.r52.ru is marked as no longer existing.
