toner.r52.ru — the site of a Nizhny Novgorod firm that lived in the r52.ru zone from the early 2000s. In the nn.ru directory it was listed under the name "Toner" and described in one line: "Air conditioners, climate control equipment, ventilation, heaters. Sales, installation, maintenance. Systems of varying complexity — from simple to the most sophisticated"[1]. At the same address in the 2010s the home page of "GK TON-R" opened, with the heading "Construction. Construction works in Nizhny Novgorod. Construction and installation works. Design"[2].

Directory card: climate control equipment

In the surviving pages of the nn.ru directory from 2003, the firm appears in four categories at once. The main one — "Ventilation and heating" in the section "Firms (Enterprises): Equipment — production, sales, installation, service"[1]. The same card stood in the category itself, "Equipment — production, sales, installation, service"[3], in "Other equipment"[4], and, unexpectedly, in the "Network installation and systems integration" category of the "Computers and office equipment" section[5]. The description repeated verbatim everywhere, the name was written now in capitals ("TONER"), now in lower case ("Toner"), and the rating field read "Rating: none" in all four instances[1][5]. Neighbors in the climate control category included the company "Nizhegorodtorgkhold" and the local representative office of the French firm Airwell[1].

Home page: from climate to construction

A snapshot from April 2, 2022 preserved a page whose content was dated April 4, 2011 and marked with the service line "Updated (03.04.2012 12:36)"[2]. As the home page stated, "GK TON-R has been successfully operating in the construction market since 1997" and "possesses the necessary resources for the high-quality and timely execution of construction works on facilities of various purposes"[2]. Separate paragraphs described the design department, regular training of engineering and technical staff, and the fact that, unlike most general-contracting organizations, the company keeps its own crews for engineering works — both internal and external — and finishing works; service teams were also mentioned, maintaining a completed facility for the duration of the warranty period and, under separate contracts, afterward[2].

The scope of work was spelled out in the header as a set of keywords: "cottage construction, cottage design, construction and installation works — heating and ventilation, water supply and sewage, external water and sewage networks, design, air conditioners"[2]. Climate control had not disappeared from the directory description but had become one of the engineering specialties of a construction company. The menu was short: "Documents," "SRO Admissions, Licenses," "Completed Facilities," "Recommendations," "Contacts," and a separate section about the cottage community "Zapovedny Kray"[2]. Neither an address nor a phone number for the firm itself appears in the saved text of the home page: the only number on the page belongs to the contracting developer — "Designed by OOO Vebrazrabotka — Website Creation — 8-905-66-11-860"[2].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

The site was not notable. The nn.ru directory marked it "Rating: none"[1], it does not appear in the surviving samples of the Counter.nn.ru counter, and no votes for it are recorded in our data. In the surviving results table of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day vote for 2004, where participants are listed together with their site addresses, toner.r52.ru does not appear[6]. This is the ordinary position of a corporate "calling card": in the Nizhny Novgorod Internet such sites made up the background of directories and ratings, not their top lines (see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating).

How it ended

The earliest saved snapshot of the home page is dated December 15, 2004[7], and the last snapshot in the web archive is dated June 18, 2022[8]. But the site's substantive life ended much earlier: the last edit to the home page text, judging by the service note, was on April 3, 2012[2] — for the next decade the page stood unchanged on the web. There are no later snapshots in our data; by the time the corpus of Nizhny Novgorod sites was surveyed, the address no longer loaded.
