zdorovje.r52.ru was the website of the "Zdorovye" ("Health") narcology treatment and consultation center, a municipal unitary enterprise of the Nizhny Novgorod healthcare department[3]. The center was located in Nizhny Novgorod at 35 Minina Street; the phone number given in the site's reference section was (8312) 36-18-77[1]. Judging by the copyright notice in the footer of the home page, the site was launched in 2000[1]; the earliest surviving snapshot is dated March 1, 2001[1], and the latest is dated November 28, 2002[4]. A domain in the r52.ru zone belongs to the Nizhny Novgorod Internet by definition.

What the site looked like

The home page was arranged as simply as possible: a menu bar of seven sections — "Home," "About the Center," "Doctors," "Types of Treatment," "News in Narcology," "Pharmacy," "Address" — with a one-screen business-card text beneath it[1]. The header carried a departmental signature: the healthcare department of the city of Nizhny Novgorod, municipal unitary enterprise "Treatment and Consultation Center 'ZDOROVYE'"[3].

As the home page stated, the Zdorovye center was "a state enterprise engaged in the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction using the most modern methods approved by the Ministry of Health of Russia"[1]. The site described the treatment program as working not only with the patient but also with their family and relatives, promising anonymity and an individual approach[1]. According to the site's description, the staff included practicing psychiatrists, psychotherapists (including child psychotherapists), a sexopathologist, and a venereologist[1]. A separate paragraph described a "new line of activity": computer diagnostics using the Nakatani method and testing using the Voll method with individual selection of homeopathic remedies, as well as "forecasting a person's psychophysical problems based on biorhythms"[1].

For the first year and a half, the center's name appeared in the page title with a typo — "Narkolgicheskiy" (a misspelling of "Narkologicheskiy," meaning "narcological") — which persisted through the March and July 2001 snapshots[1][2] and was corrected by June 2002[3]. At the same time, the email address healthy@sandy.ru was added to the contact line[3]. At the bottom of the page, the word "Coding" and the signature "Teamoty Brane Inc." remained unchanged throughout[1].

The 2002 anniversary text

The only substantive update to the home page preserved in the archive is a note titled "Fifteen Years of Medical Self-Financing in Nizhny Novgorod," which appeared by November 2002[4]. From it we learn that the enterprise traced its history to 1987 and, as the site claimed, was "the first and only self-financing enterprise of a purely medical profile to have operated in our city for such a period," the first to obtain a license for medical and pharmacological activity[4]. The center called itself the city's third-largest narcology institution; it employed eight doctors, five of them holding the highest qualification category[4].

The same note reported that throughout all fifteen years the enterprise had operated without budget subsidies, on full self-financing, maintaining its own building and paying taxes[4]. The site described the building at 35 Minina Street as a century-and-a-half-old landmark "thanks to Werner's original architecture" and noted that it was used by the enterprise as its emblem and featured in its logo[4]. It mentioned the center's renown in Nizhny Novgorod and the region, as well as among doctors in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Izhevsk, and Krasnoyarsk, and a methodological cooperation agreement with the Russian Center for Narcology under the Russian Ministry of Health[4]. The note was signed by director N. A. Ivanova, with a separate phone number, 36-16-10[4].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

The site entered our sample from the nn.ru directory, where it was listed under a category described as "Medical Center 'Zdorovye' — a state enterprise engaged in the treatment of alcohol dependence"; this is an abridged retelling of the first paragraph of the home page[1]. It does not appear in the surviving samples of the Counter.nn.ru rating, and we have no data on its traffic; on the methodology of such measurements, see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating. The site is not listed in the final voting table of the 2004 Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day, although other resources in the r52.ru zone are[5]. This is a typical picture for the turn of the 1990s–2000s: a municipal institution's business-card site existed outside the contest and rating life of the local network.

How it closed

The web archive index for this address contains only eight records, four of which carry the text of the home page; the last snapshot with text is dated November 28, 2002[4]. The site later disappears from the archive, and the domain zdorovje.r52.ru no longer exists. The circumstances of the closure and the subsequent fate of the center itself cannot be traced in our materials.
