volgatrade.ru — website of the Nizhny Novgorod firm "VolgaTrade," which sold GAZ-brand vehicles and converted them into special-purpose equipment. The earliest archived snapshots of the home page date to June 2003[1]. The site's Nizhny Novgorod affiliation is confirmed by the pages themselves: in 2003 the home page listed the phone numbers (8312) 280-497 and 488-857 along with a reference on average fuel prices in Nizhny Novgorod[1], while the 2012 version stated "Nizhny Novgorod. Tel/fax: 8 (831) 466-88-26, 275-88-76"[2]. One of the site's mirrors operated in the Nizhny Novgorod domain zone — volgatrade.nnov.ru[1].

Tuning and GAZ vehicles: the 2003 site

The early version presented the firm as a seller of "enhanced comfort" GAZ vehicles and a workshop that upgraded cars "to Lux class"; the page's keyword list included Volga, GAZelle, Sobol, Barguzin, VAZ, "Lada Lady," "Titan," add-on kits, armoring, and "OAO GAZ dealer"[1]. Separately offered were the manufacture of special-purpose equipment based on GAZ, MAZ, KamAZ, and ZIL vehicles, installation of custom-built van bodies (kungs) to the customer's drawings, winches, and D-245.7 diesel engines. As the home page stated, the firm held "the exclusive right to sell the GAZ 3308 Sadko 4x4 off-road vehicle"[1].

A news feed ran on the home page. On April 30, 2003, it reported an update to the site version: special-purpose equipment from MAZ, MTZ, and MZKT was added, a forum went live, and the guestbook, mailing list, and site search were fine-tuned. On June 3, 2003, a section on van bodies (kungs), winches, and diesel engines opened at kung.volgatrade.ru; earlier entries concerned price-list updates, body repair and painting with computerized color matching, and engine and chassis chip tuning[1].

The site maintained as many as five mirror addresses: volgatrade.ru, volgatrade.nnov.ru, volgatrade.h1.ru, volgatrade.h10.ru, and vtnn.narod.ru. Visitors were offered site search with AND and OR modes, a price-mailing subscription with a choice of encoding (Win, Koi8, Iso) and message format (txt, html), and a poll, "Why did you choose the GAZ-3308 'Sadko'?" with the options "off-road capability," "capacity," and "other." Correspondence with the administrator went to zuikov@volgatrade.ru[1].

Catalog of special-purpose equipment: the 2012 site

By 2012 the site had become a multi-level catalog. The navigation listed the GAZ-3308 4x4 "Sadko," vans (bread-delivery, insulated, mobile shop), van bodies/kungs (insulated, military riveted, "watch-duty," kung drawings), mobile workshops and mobile laboratories, mechanical and electric winches including WARN, all-terrain and tracked ZZGT tractors, GAZ passenger and cargo vehicles, special-purpose vehicles (ambulance, police, fire, command/staff), special-purpose equipment based on KamAZ and "Ural," and municipal service vehicles[2].

Prices were published openly: a GAZ-33081 "Sadko" chassis/flatbed with the D-245.7 engine — 995,800 rubles; the GAZ-3308 "Yeger II" with a five-seat cab — 1,195,800; the "Ural-43203" chassis — 1,998,600; the KamAZ-43118 with a sleeper cab — 2,030,800; a military riveted-style van body (kung) for the GAZ-3308 cost 459,800 rubles[2]. A list of upfit options took up most of the page: a Webasto heater (75,800 rubles), a Sanden climate unit, an FVU-A-100N filter-ventilation unit (170,800), an infrared sauna measuring 1000×1100×1900 mm (130,000), a shower cabin with water heating (49,900), a portable toilet from 7,800, a weapons safe (25,670), a thermal case for game, and camouflage netting for the entire vehicle[2]. As the home page stated, the firm offered to build, on the "Sadko" base, a comfortable "workshop," "watch-duty vehicle," "mobile laboratory," or "mobile station" for servicing oil wells and cell towers, as well as a vehicle for hunting and fishing[2].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

In the left-hand column of the 2012 site there was a separate "Counters" block, headed by Counter.nn.ru, followed by Rambler Top100, top.mail.ru, and rax.ru[2]. Such a combination was typical of commercial sites of the time: a local Nizhny Novgorod counter alongside nationwide ones.

The site is listed among the participants of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day in 2004, but no votes for it were recorded in the final tally[4]. In the aggregate data of the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating, the firm "VolgaTrade" corresponds to a score of 627 — a notable figure for a narrowly specialized corporate site that lived not on news but on a price list.

How it closed

A snapshot from January 11, 2016, captures, in place of the catalog, a placeholder page: the domain name, the line "2016 Copyright. All Rights Reserved," and an English-language disclaimer stating that the links shown are supplied by a third party and that the domain owner is not affiliated with the advertisers[3]. According to the archival study's summary, the domain is attributed to the years 2003–2022, and has been listed as parked since 2023; the last snapshot in the web archive is dated July 6, 2024. No move to another address and no successor to the site have been recorded, and all that remains of the firm "VolgaTrade" in the Nizhny Novgorod Internet are these archived pages with prices for van bodies and all-terrain vehicles.
