troya.r52.ru was the website of a Nizhny Novgorod company called "Troya — Means of Communication" (Троя — средства связи), a supplier of office telephone exchanges and telecommunications equipment. In 2007 the home page presented the firm as "Troya Telecommunication Systems" and gave the address: 603109, Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhegorodskaya St., 11, office 2, phones (8312) 33-14-55 and 78-96-87, email troya@r52.ru[1]. The copyright notice on the site counted from 2005[1]; according to our census, the domain's Wayback Machine snapshots begin in February 2001, and the last saved snapshot of the home page is dated November 4, 2018[4].

What the site looked like

The layout was simple and did not change for years: a line with the address and phone numbers at the top, a section menu on the left, and a product directory on the right. In the 2007 version the menu consisted of "About the company," "News," "Service support," "Our clients and reviews," and "Order form"[1]. By 2013 "Contacts" had been added, and the product categories had been consolidated into four: "Telephone exchanges," "Telephone sets," "Micro-cellular communications," "Conference calling"[2].

The earlier version listed the range in more detail — a telephone exchange (mini-PBX), micro-cellular communications, digital and analog telephone sets, a personal computer, service applications, an audio-conferencing system, technological communications[1]. Under the categories stood manufacturer names: Siemens, Avaya, NEC, with the Siemens Euroset and Siemens Gigaset lines listed separately[1]. Technical details were placed right on the home page: PBX interfaces were specified — ISDN (S0, S2M), analog HKZ, combined and cross connections[1]. This was not showcase copy but engineering text, aimed at someone choosing an exchange for an enterprise who already knows what S2M is.

Between Nizhny Novgorod and Siemens

By the early 2010s the company had moved: the 2013 snapshot gives a different address — 603163, Nizhny Novgorod, Alexandra Khokhlova St., 1, office 17, phone (831) 411-15-26, fax 201-20-68[2]. At that moment the home page was given over to an announcement of a seminar that "Troya — Means of Communication" was holding together with Siemens Enterprise Communications. As the home page reported, the event, "The Latest Technologies in Corporate Communications," was scheduled for April 3, 2013, at the Diplomat Hotel on Bolshaya Pecherskaya St., 26, starting at 10:00, with registration required due to limited seating[2].

The published program indicates who was expected to attend. The audience was named as IT directors, heads of IT and communications departments, and engineers and specialists from medium and large enterprises in Nizhny Novgorod and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast[2]. The seminar was opened by the company's director, Andrei Lugovoy, with a talk on communications at the modern enterprise; he was followed by Timur Guseinov, head of the Volga Federal District regional office of Siemens Enterprise Communications, and Viktor Arkhipenkov, a leading specialist at the same company, while the second-to-last item on the program was a talk by a representative of the Governor's Office of Administrative Affairs[2].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

The site lived in the r52.ru zone — one of the local domain zones of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet. It entered our census through the nn.ru catalog directory rather than through a rating: no position or visit counts are recorded for it in the surviving samples of the Counter.nn.ru counter; on the coverage of these samples see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating. The site does not appear in the final voting table of the 2004 Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day[5]. This is the ordinary fate of a narrow-profile corporate site: it addressed not readers but enterprise procurement buyers of communications equipment, and it did not compete in public ratings and votes.

How it closed

The last substantive news item on the home page appeared at the end of 2013: a notice that as of October 15, 2013, Siemens Enterprise Communications had changed its name to Unify, with the caveat that all registered trademarks of solutions and products remained unchanged[3]. At that point the site stopped. The March 7, 2016 snapshot and the November 4, 2018 snapshot match word for word — the same news item, the same address on Alexandra Khokhlova St., the same "2005–2013" copyright notice[3][4]. For five years the home page displayed the same announcement of a partner's renaming.

Our sample contains no new versions of the home page after November 4, 2018[4]. By the time this census entry was compiled, the domain troya.r52.ru no longer existed. What remains of Nizhny Novgorod's "Troya" is four archived snapshots: two addresses, two telephone codes — the former (8312) and the current (831) — and a list of Siemens, Avaya, and NEC exchanges that the firm installed for Nizhny Novgorod enterprises.
