tools.pavlovo.nnov.ru was the website of the Pavlovo Tool Plant, known from three web-archive snapshots: from November 28, 1999[1] to November 22, 2005[3]. The address was a subdomain within pavlovo.nnov.ru — the Nizhny Novgorod zone of nnov.ru. The Nizhny Novgorod tie is also visible on the pages themselves: in July 2004 the plant invited partners to the "Volgokhoztorg-2004" exhibition, which, as the home page reported, "will be held at the Nizhny Novgorod Fair," with products promised "at stands in Pavilion No. 2"[3]; the marketing department's contact address was set up on the mts-nn.ru domain[2].
1999: a page of appeals to partners
The 1999 snapshot shows a short home page with no news feed — a set of business appeals on behalf of the "Pavlovo Tool Plant JSC." The plant wrote that it "would be glad to cooperate with organizations ready to develop packaging for our tools," promised to consider "any proposals related to placing foreign orders at our enterprise's production facilities," and stated interest "in establishing our plant's representative offices abroad" (original spelling)[1]. A separate block covered materials procurement: structural steel, tool steel, rolled pipe, thin-walled seamless pipe, calibrated steel, "and much more"[1]. There was also a reference to the plant's products "at Russian and foreign exhibitions (1999)." At the bottom was the line "Copyright © 1999 Step ltd"[1].
2003: news about certificates
By November 2003 the structure of the home page had barely changed — the same blocks on packaging, foreign orders, and materials procurement — but a news feed of two entries from late 2001 had appeared at the top. The first, dated December 11, 2001, reported the issuance of a quality management system compliance certificate for the design, development, and production of fitting and assembly tools under GOST R ISO 9001-96, registration number ROSS.RU.K00003. The second, dated December 18, 2001, reported a conclusion by the certification body at the Institute for Testing and Certification of Weapons and Military Equipment "on the presence of an effective quality system ensuring the conditions for fulfilling the state defense order"[2]. The same snapshot shows the marketing department's contact address — ptools@mts-nn.ru[2]. The legal form is given inconsistently: in the page title and news headers the enterprise is called "LLC," while in the news texts themselves it is called "JSC"[2].
The rebuilt site of 2004–2005
The last surviving snapshot shows an already redesigned site with a three-section menu: "Events and News | Product Catalog | About the Enterprise." The news feed is dated 2004: July 20 — an invitation to "Volgokhoztorg-2004," July 23 — a report on obtaining a compliance certificate, November 2 — a note that "work on filling the product catalog has been completed"[3]. The plant also described itself here: it specializes in the production of special tools for automotive equipment, and also supplies the Russian tool market with "the widest range of wrenches and tool sets for various purposes." The same home page also claimed: "The tool plant was founded in 1820 by the industrialist Terebin" (original spelling)[3].
Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet, and closure
The site belonged to that part of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet that addressed not the reader but the business counterpart: the entire content of the three snapshots — raw materials procurement, the search for partners abroad, an exhibition invitation, and a product catalog[1][3]. In our sample from the nn.ru catalog (the /rub/ section) the address is listed with the description "Design and production of fitting and assembly tools," with a zero rating and not a single vote for it in our data (the Counter.nn.ru counter, see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating).
The address's fate can be traced through the last snapshot: in a news item from November 2, 2004, the plant reported that the product catalog had been filled in "at the website www.pavlovoinstrument.ru"[3] — meaning the work was already underway on another domain, in the second level of the .ru zone. The last recorded snapshot of tools.pavlovo.nnov.ru is dated November 22, 2005[3]; by the time of this survey the domain no longer existed.
