strazh.nnov.ru is the website of LLC "Security Company STRAZH" (OOO «Охранное предприятие СТРАЖ»), a private security firm from Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod Region. The home page listed the address: 606000, Russia, Nizhny Novgorod Region, Dzerzhinsk, Dzerzhinskogo Ave., 40, phone and fax (8313) 22-00-85, an additional phone 21-08-00, and an email box on its own domain[1]. The company itself, as the home page stated, was founded in June 2001, with its history traced back to the autumn of 1993[1]. The surviving snapshots of the home page in the web archive span from September 2003 to March 2007, the last of them dated 14 March 2007[3].

What the site looked like

The layout of the home page was the same across all three surviving snapshots. At the top ran a product line: the pocket cell-phone signal jammer "Briz," the stationary cell-phone jammers "Barkhan-1" and "Barkhan-2," and the voice-recorder jammer "Mangust"[1][3]. Below it was a short news block with a link to the archive, followed by a large text on the company's history and principles, which took up most of the page[1].

The news feed was updated rarely. In the September 2004 snapshot, the last two entries were dated 20 and 28 April of that same year: first the company warned visitors of an expansion of its range of services and an upcoming site update, then reported that the design had been updated and new sections added[1]. In the 8 March 2005 snapshot the news block remained exactly the same — in nearly a year, not a single new entry had appeared[2].

In the 2007 snapshot the home page carried a single entry from 18 August 2006 — an announcement of an educational-practical seminar and masterclass, "Features of Using Special Equipment in Critical Situations," scheduled for 24 August 2006 from 10:00 to 13:00 in Dzerzhinsk, at 3 Uritskogo Street, on the premises of a judo sports school. The seminar was run by the non-governmental educational institution "EKSPERT Security Training Center" together with the "Federation of Russian Combat Art — ROSS," with support from the city administration, the Internal Affairs Directorate, and the Dzerzhinsk department of the FSB; a separate section was led by the federation's president, Honored Coach of Russia Alexander Ivanovich Retyunskikh. Contact phone numbers were given for Dzerzhinsk (34-11-03) and Nizhny Novgorod (15-88-34)[3].

What the company said about itself

The main text of the home page was written not in an advertising tone but in a memoir-like one. In the autumn of 1993, it stated, an in-house security department was set up, ensuring the safety of business operations and turnover for several then-still-small commercial enterprises and overseeing the work of the security firms they had hired. A separate passage was devoted to the claim that, in the competitive struggle, based on the authors' experience, the apparatus of officials from regulatory bodies served as a tool for eliminating rivals, while criminal structures grew on the back of general disorder[1].

In January 2001, according to the same account, the question arose of spinning off the security division into an independent commercial entity, and in June 2001 the LLC was registered. Over 2001-2003, the page claimed, the company's staff prevented attacks on protected property complexes and acts of terrorism, for which the firm received commendations from the Dzerzhinsk police and Internal Affairs departments, the Volodarsk district police department, and the directors of commercial enterprises. The text closed with the formula that management was convinced that "in security, there are no small details"[1]. Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

The site belonged to the business segment rather than the community segment of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet: it existed as the company's business card and was updated about once every year to eighteen months. It came into our sample from the nn.ru catalog directory, where it is recorded with a rating score of 4.0; it does not appear in the surviving samples of the Counter.nn.ru counter. It is not listed among the results of the 2004 Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day vote[4].

How it closed

The last snapshot of the home page in the web archive is dated 14 March 2007; at that point the site was still intact and still showing the August 2006 news item[3]. There are no later snapshots in the web archive, and the domain strazh.nnov.ru no longer works. No information about what happened to the company itself after 2007 has survived in the available materials.
