spas.r52.ru was the site of the Nizhny Novgorod municipal unitary enterprise "SPAS-NN," whose name it spelled out as "Skoraya Peredvizhnaya Avtomobilnaya Sluzhba" (Emergency Mobile Motor Vehicle Service)[1]. The enterprise provided round-the-clock roadside assistance on the streets of Nizhny Novgorod: evacuation and towing of broken-down and damaged vehicles[1]. The address in the page header was 603024, Nizhny Novgorod, Belinskogo Street, 97, with phone and fax (8312) 35-73-29[1]. The site was hosted on R52.RU and is known from web archive snapshots from 24 July 2001 to 29 April 2009[1][2].

What the enterprise offered

The "About the company" section described the service's work as follows: as the home page stated, the MUP "SPAS" "has been operating on the roads of Nizhny Novgorod for more than 5 years," and "in the event of accidents and equipment breakdowns occurring on the roads, at your call, or a call from the traffic police (GIBDD) or the GUVD, the enterprise ensures that equipment is dispatched to the accident site in the shortest possible time and removes damaged equipment from the roads"[1]. On a separate line, in capital letters, stood the word "ROUND-THE-CLOCK"[1].

The list of services contained three items: round-the-clock roadside assistance with evacuation of broken-down cars to a parking or repair site; roadside technical assistance for minor breakdowns and towing of heavy equipment; and manufacture of joinery products for the public, floor and ceiling installation, and finishing work[1]. The page emphasized that all of the enterprise's services were certified[1].

The "Our products" section combined the same two far-flung lines of business: manufacture of tow trucks for rescue services and manufacture of joinery products for the public — window and door units, loggia glazing[1]. Woodworking was also the subject of the site's only job listing — a joiner of grade 5–6, no higher education required, with knowledge of marking-out and the ability to work woodworking machines; the terms were described as an eight-hour working day, 30 working days of vacation, and piece-rate pay "without delays"[1].

What the site looked like

It was a single-page business-card site: the sections "About the company," "Services," "Our products," "Vacancies," and "Contacts" all opened on the same page, and each ended with a "return" link, with the whole page ending in a "To the top" link[1]. There are no visitor counters in the saved text.

The contacts block is the most detailed. Besides the postal address, phone, and fax on Belinskogo, 97, it lists the email address spas@r52.ru, a separate dispatcher number (8312) 35-35-85, and three short numbers for subscribers of different communication networks of the time: "PSSR: 111 (free)," "Sotel: 007," "GSM: 105"[1]. The footer credited the contractors: "Hosting by R52.RU," "Coding by Info-online"[1].

Notably, over eight years the home page text did not change by a single word: the snapshot from 29 April 2009 repeats the snapshot from 24 July 2001 word for word — including the phrase "has been operating on the roads for more than 5 years" and the typo in the word "enterprise"[1][2].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

The site belonged to that layer of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet that grew up on the R52.RU host: dozens of Nizhny Novgorod enterprises got a third-level subdomain there and hung a business-card page on it. In the nn.ru site directory, "SPAS-NN" was listed under a category described as "Roadside technical assistance, evacuation, towing."

The enterprise was not a notable participant in the city's online life. In the published voting results of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day for 2004, the domain spas.r52.ru does not appear[3], and in our surviving samples of the Counter.nn.ru counter, the site's traffic is not recorded — for more on these samples themselves, see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating. This is the usual state of affairs for a corporate business card that was not updated and did not compete for an audience: the site was an electronic equivalent of a directory listing, not a publication.

How it closed

The last web archive snapshot of the home page is dated 29 April 2009[2]; the web archive index knows of 25 captures of the address in total. According to our data, the domain spas.r52.ru is no longer active. The fate of the enterprise itself cannot be traced from the materials available to us: the site had gone silent long before it disappeared, and the archived snapshots say nothing about what happened to the "Emergency Mobile Motor Vehicle Service" after 2009.
