Taran, also known as Taranok.
The locality is situated in Nizhegorodsky District, at the intersection of Rodionov Street and Raduzhnaya Street. The name originated in the early 20th century, when a water-pumping station stood there. The technical device used to raise water is called a hydraulic ram (in Russian, gidravlichesky taran).
In the Soviet era, the name "Taran" came to be applied to a large grocery store located nearby.
