The Perevozsky Stud Farm is one of Russia's oldest horse-breeding enterprises, founded in 1844 and located in Perevozsky District of Nizhny Novgorod Region. It is the only facility in the region specializing in the preservation and breeding of the Soviet Heavy Draft horse. Since the early 2020s, the farm has been owned by Agat Agro LLC, part of the Agat Group.[1]
History and Current State
The farm dates back to 1844. During the Soviet and post-Soviet periods, the enterprise went through various stages of development. In 2022, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Gleb Nikitin and Aleksey Mamochkin, head of the Agat Group, signed a cooperation agreement: the company planned to invest around 10 billion rubles in the region's agricultural sector by 2026. Among the investment priorities was the development of thoroughbred horse breeding at the Perevozsky Stud Farm. By that point, the Agat Group had already acquired more than 38,000 hectares of agricultural land across five municipal districts of the region.
The enterprise currently keeps more than 130 horses. In 2023, the farm was granted the status of a gene pool facility as an establishment preserving a rare breed.[1]
Soviet Heavy Draft
The Soviet Heavy Draft breed, which the farm raises, is classified as rare. The Perevozsky Stud Farm remains the only facility in Nizhny Novgorod Region engaged in its deliberate preservation and reproduction. The assignment of gene pool facility status in 2023 formally confirmed this role.[2]
Tourism Development
In 2026, the enterprise's owner — the AGATAAGRO agro-holding, represented by Dmitry Lukin — announced plans to launch a tour program with the support of Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation. The decision was made following participation in a series of round tables organized by the Corporation and devoted to the development of the tourism sector.[3] The program includes an introduction to the history of the stud farm, interaction with the animals, and a horse ride. The launch of tours was planned after the completion of tourist infrastructure and the training of guides.[1] Ischenko, described the project as an example of entrepreneurial initiative implemented through regional support instruments.[2] Igor Ischenko, Director General of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation, called the Perevozsky Stud Farm a pride of Nizhny Novgorod Region, noting that the owner is investing both in the development of the enterprise and in creating a tourism offering capable of attracting residents of the region as well as visitors from other areas.[3] Developing tourist infrastructure in municipalities is among the region's priorities: the Nizhny Novgorod Region Development Corporation holds round tables for entrepreneurs at which it presents available state support measures, potential sites for tourism facilities, and promising areas for investment.[3]
