Orlovskiye Dvoriki — a settlement located directly on Moscow Highway at the entrance to the city. It arose in 1947 during the construction of the highway to Moscow on uninhabited forested land, owing to the need for a coaching station where horses could be changed — the nearest one to Nizhny Novgorod, at a distance of 15 km. The name "dvoriki" (meaning a small coaching yard), which denoted such a station, reflects this original purpose. The qualifier "Orlovskiye" derives from the location: the nearest settlement, Orlovka, lies 6 km to the south.
