The domain nntu.sci-nnov.ru served from 1997 to 2022 as the official website of Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University (NNSTU, named after R. Ye. Alekseev since 2007)[1][2][3]. The site was listed in the nn.ru directory of Nizhny Novgorod resources, where it was described as "The electronic newspaper of the SSK specialization of Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University. Communication networks and switching systems"[4] — although the surviving snapshots of the home page show not a faculty newspaper but the university's official portal as a whole.

What the site looked like

The earliest surviving snapshot, dated July 1997, captured a page titled "Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University Home Page" with an English-language greeting and a link to the Russian version in Windows-1251 encoding; the contact address given was AOS@nntu.sci-nnov.ru, and the page's last-edit date was listed as 11.02.97[1].

By 2006-2007 the site had grown into a full-fledged university portal. The menu included sections "Historical and geographical background," "NNSTU in figures," "University life," "Admission rules," "Postgraduate and doctoral studies," "Faculties, institutes and branches," "Dissertation councils," an English-language version, and "Addresses and phone numbers"[2]. According to the home page, the university traced its history to the Warsaw Polytechnic Institute of Emperor Nicholas II, founded on June 18, 1898; in 1980 it was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour; in 1992 it received the status of a technical university; and by a resolution of the Nizhny Novgorod Region government and an order of the Federal Education Agency of 2007 it was renamed NNSTU named after R. Ye. Alekseev[2][3][6]. The university's official chronicle confirms these milestones and provides more precise dates: the university received the Order of the Red Banner of Labour on June 8, 1980; the status of technical university by order No. 1133 of the Ministry of Science, Higher School and Technical Policy of the Russian Federation dated December 24, 1992; and the name of R. Ye. Alekseev by order of the Federal Education Agency dated March 1, 2007[6]. The university's structure, as stated on the site, included 11 full-time faculties, a faculty of correspondence and evening studies, the Arzamas and Dzerzhinsk polytechnic institutes, and the Zavolzhye, Vyksa, and Pavlovo branches established in 2000; the university had 8 representative offices in Balakhna, Bogorodsk, Bor, Kstovo, and the settlements of Vacha, Pervomaysk, Shakhunya, and Savasleyka[2]. Figures were also given: more than 25,000 students across all forms of study (over 18,000 at the university itself), 168 doctors and professors, 602 candidates of science, 19 scientific schools, and 11 dissertation councils[2]. The site's official mail address was listed as nntu@nntu.nnov.ru, and the webmaster's as aos@nntu.nnov.ru[2].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

At the same time the site was part of the domain structure of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet — the university subject matter itself placed it alongside the city's other educational resources.

How it closed

The last snapshot of the domain recorded in the web archive is dated June 25, 2022. By January 2022 the site was already not loading: a snapshot from January 20 of that year shows not a university page but a hosting provider's service page headed "Server nntu.sci-nnov.ru not found," with links to hosting support (support@hosting.ru), a "STREAM24" section, and the copyright notice "© 2005-2009 ЗАО (495) 625-25-25"[5]. Judging by this snapshot, by the time of its disappearance the domain had either ceased to be maintained by the university or had been taken over and pointed to a third-party hoster's infrastructure — the exact cause cannot be established from the available data.
