The Nizhny Novgorod Law Academy is a private higher education institution in Nizhny Novgorod that trains specialists in the field of jurisprudence. The Academy is included in the National Register "Leading Educational Institutions of Russia"; in December 2011 it underwent public accreditation and received a quality mark from the Association of Lawyers of Russia.[1] The Academy was founded in April 1997 by the Nizhny Novgorod Foundation for the Development of Education and Science "AlmaMater." The Academy is registered as a private higher education institution, the "Nizhny Novgorod Law Academy," and is located at Kostina Street, building 2, section "B"; its license for educational activities (no. 00712) was issued on a permanent basis on 6 May 2013, and state accreditation (no. 615) has been in effect since 7 June 2013. The Academy's official website is nounpa.ru, and the admissions office email is nounpa@mail.ru.[2][1] Among the Academy's leadership is Vladimir Konstantinovich Babayev (born 1 December 1939), Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, and militia major general, who served as rector. The position of Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs was held by Vladimir Yegorovich Gushchev (born 10 September 1939), Candidate of Legal Sciences, Professor, militia colonel, and Honored Jurist of the Russian Federation.

Training of Specialists

The Academy awarded diplomas in "Jurisprudence" (qualification: lawyer). Approximately 80% of the Academy's teaching and professorial staff hold academic titles and degrees; prosecutors, judges, notaries, and attorneys are involved in training lawyers.[1] The Academy has experience of cooperation with the prosecutor's office, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Federal Migration Service, the Directorate of the Federal Bailiff Service, customs authorities, as well as state and local government bodies of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.[1] The Academy has its own building in the center of Nizhny Novgorod (Gorky Square, a three-minute walk from the Gorkovskaya metro station); the building houses lecture halls, computer classrooms, forensic science offices, a library with a reading room, and a conference hall.[1] Over twenty years of operation, the Academy has trained more than ten thousand bachelors, specialists, and masters of jurisprudence; more than 38 postgraduate graduates have defended dissertations for the degree of Candidate of Legal Sciences. From September 2002, Mariya Smekun (Sokolova), Candidate of Legal Sciences, taught at the Academy, delivering courses in criminal procedure, the theory of evidence, and civil law.[3] In 2017–2018, the Academy participated in monitoring by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation: the effectiveness score was 3 points in 2017 and 4 points in 2018, with the average Unified State Exam score across all programs and forms of study being 54.71 and 55.42 respectively.[2][1] Among its graduates are Aleksandr Vasilevich Razumovsky, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, who graduated from the Academy in 2000; Viktor Vladimirovich Yashkov, who received his law degree in 2002; and Dmitry Germanovich Krasnov, who graduated from the Academy in 2005 and subsequently worked within the structures of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
