The Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics (MESI) was a federal state-funded institution of higher professional education that existed from 1932 to 2015.[1] It was located in Moscow at 7 Nezhinskaya Street.[2] In 2015, it was reorganized by being merged into the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics pursuant to Order No. 185 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, dated 10 March 2015.[2][1] The university's connection to the Nizhny Novgorod Region was maintained through its Nizhny Novgorod branch, opened in 1996.
History of the University
MESI was founded in 1932 as the Moscow Institute of National Economic Accounting.[1] In 1948, it was reorganized as the Moscow Economic-Statistical Institute, retaining the acronym MESI.[1] In 1982, it was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour.[1] In 1996, it was granted university status and renamed the Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics.[1]
The reorganization decision was preliminarily considered on 17 February 2015 at a meeting of the Commission for Assessing the Consequences of Reorganization Decisions under the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, with the participation of representatives from the Moscow Department of Education, the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of Moscow and the Moscow Region, the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, and MESI; the commission unanimously approved the merger.[1] The combined institution was intended to become a leading economic research university.[1]
Nizhny Novgorod Branch
The Nizhny Novgorod branch of MESI was founded in 1996.[3] It was located at 37 Rozhdestvenskaya Street, Nizhny Novgorod (postcode 603001).[3] On 17 July 2009, the branch received its state accreditation certificate.[3] Student enrollment stood at 1,205.[3]
The branch offered 10 degree programs, including: hotel services, management, taxes and taxation, law and social welfare administration, jurisprudence, software engineering for computing and automated systems, statistics, economics, and accounting.[3]
