millxxi.ru — the website of the Nizhny Novgorod recruitment agency OOO Millenium-XXI Vek (Millennium-21st Century), which operated from 2004 to 2016. The page gave the agency's office address as: Russia, city of Nizhny Novgorod, 45 Ilyinskaya Street; the firm was engaged in the search for and selection of personnel, personnel assessment and training[1]. The site was the showcase of a single company: a home page addressed to the employer and a few utility sections — there was neither a news feed nor a forum in the menu[1]. The Web Archive preserved 36 captures of the domain: the first on 7 June 2004, the last on 19 March 2018[3].

What was on the page

The header was occupied by the line “A NEW CENTURY, A PRESTIGIOUS JOB”, repeated three times, and the caption “RECRUITMENT AGENCY”[1]. In the page title the firm described itself thus: “Recruitment agency of Nizhny Novgorod, OOO Millenium-XXI Vek — professional search and selection of qualified personnel, personnel assessment, training”[1]. The side menu consisted of nine items — “About the company”, “Personnel search and selection”, “Cost of services”, “View vacancies”, “Add a CV”, “Training”, “Personnel assessment”, “Recruitment request”, “Home”; in the bottom row of links two more sections were added to them that were absent from the side menu — “The agency through the eyes of its partners” and “We are registered”[1].

The main text was addressed not to the job seeker but to the employer, and it examined four situations in which a company ought to come to the agency: “No experienced HR officer”, “Difficulty of the search”, “Minimizing monetary costs”, “Saving working time”[1]. In the same place stood the only measurable promise: a recruitment agency “possessing an extensive database” undertook to provide the client, within 3-5 days, with several candidates meeting the stated requirements[1]. The text concluded with the slogan “Into the future with us !” and with the promise that whoever applied would receive “a unique opportunity to select high-class specialists for the prosperity of Your business”[1].

The contacts stood in the footer: telephone (8312) 34-08-11, telephone and fax (8312) 30-77-43, e-mail mill@list.ru[1]. In not one of the surviving captures did the page show a mail address of its own on the millxxi.ru domain — the agency conducted its correspondence through a free mailbox.

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

millxxi.ru came into our inventory of closed Nizhny Novgorod websites through the lists of the 2004 Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day. No prominence is on record for it: it had zero votes in that poll, and the Counter.nn.ru rating in its inventory card is zero as well. For a corporate calling card this is an ordinary position: it did not gather an audience and did not compete for one, but served the telephone call and the recruitment request. How the prominence of Nizhny Novgorod websites was measured at all in those years is examined in the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating; millxxi.ru belongs to that layer of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet which existed outside the ratings and therefore left almost no traces.

A year and a half without a single edit

Two substantive captures of the home page have survived: 17 December 2014[1] and 13 April 2016[2]. Their texts match character for character — the same slogans, the same four arguments, the same address on Ilyinskaya Street, the same two telephone numbers and the same e-mail. Over sixteen months nothing on the page changed: the site was not being updated, it simply stood there.

After that the domain fell silent: according to our inventory, the captures of 2017–2018 already caught a domain parking page, and the last request of the Web Archive is dated 19 March 2018[3]. According to the results of a liveness check, millxxi.ru is now neither registered nor redirected anywhere. What became of the agency itself is unknown from the surviving materials: the site is as silent about that as it was silent about everything else.
