navigator.nnov.ru was the website of the Nizhny Novgorod marketing agency "Media Navigator" (Медиа Навигатор), which operated in Nizhny Novgorod at 14 Torgovaya Street[1]. The agency conducted quantitative marketing research, surveys and promotional projects and, as the home page stated, was part of the "MARCS" group[1]. In the directory of the nn.ru catalogue, from which the site made it into the census of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet, it was listed under the name BNG&MNG with the description "Monitor, marketing research, advertising". Web Archive snapshots of the home page begin in 2002; the last one is dated 5 October 2022, though by that time a completely different service was being served at that address[2].
What the home page looked like
The surviving 2011 snapshot is titled "Marketing Research in Nizhny Novgorod — Media Navigator"[1]. The top of the page featured a client testimonial: Patrick Luternauer of IFC, as the home page stated, called the company "an excellent research company that can carry out large-scale projects in the banking sector"[1]. Below were the sections "Survey Results" and "About the Company" with a "more" link, while the main area was occupied by the agency's news feed[1].
The agency named the "quantitative approach" to research as its distinctive advantage: the page declared mathematical and logical models to be its principal tools of analysis and planning[1]. The footer contained full contact details: postal code 603001, city of Nizhny Novgorod, 14 Torgovaya Street; multi-line phone +7 (831) 433-90-05; email office@navigator.nnov.ru[1]. No visitor counters are visible in the saved text of the home page.
What the agency did
The news feed on the home page listed orders from 2008–2009 and served in place of a portfolio. In September and December 2008, "Media Navigator" reported on work for ZAO "Mobicom-Center" (MegaFon in the Central region): the agency assessed subscriber loyalty to the leading mobile operators — MegaFon, Beeline, MTS, Tele2, NSS — and identified factors influencing it, and also studied subscriber preferences and operator image; the September project was described as the fourth for this client in 2008[1].
Besides research, the agency had a marketing support department. In late September 2008, it ran a promotional project for ZAO "Raiffeisenbank" at the "Park Avenue" shopping centre: the campaign informed residents of the Avtozavodsky District of Nizhny Novgorod about the opening of an additional bank branch at 1B Vedenyapina Street[1]. In 2009, the agency partnered with the Moscow city government's programme "Business Marathon 2009. Business Missions of Moscow Small Enterprises to the Regions of the Russian Federation" and took part in organizing a meeting of Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod business circles on 9–10 April 2009[1]. The summary of this business mission, dated 14 April 2009, is the last news item the page managed to show[1].
Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet
The site was a corporate showcase rather than a heavily visited portal, and it left no notable trace in audience measurements. It does not appear in the surviving samples of the Counter.nn.ru counter, and no rating position is recorded for it in our data; it entered the census via the nn.ru catalogue's directory rather than via the counter. The site's domain is not listed in the surviving results table of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day vote of 2004[3]. This is typical for business sites of this kind: they lived not by audience or by votes, but by the phone number in the page footer. The broader context of these measurements is discussed in the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating.
How the site ended
The site's substantive life ended in 2009: a snapshot taken on 20 November 2011 shows the same home page with news two to three years old — it was no longer updated, but it had not been taken down either[1]. Later the address passed to another owner or another project: in the snapshot from 5 October 2022, navigator.nnov.ru hosts a service called GeoRITM, and the entire page content is a bilingual warning that the service will not work in an outdated version of Internet Explorer, with links to update the browser, Chrome and Firefox[2]. By this point nothing remains on the page from the marketing agency. This snapshot from 5 October 2022 is the last one in the Web Archive[2].
