Makaryevsky County — one of the northern counties (uyezds) of the Nizhny Novgorod Province. It was formed around the historical lands of the Makaryevo (Makaryevsky Monastery).
According to data for 1897, about 109,000 people lived in the county.
History
Formed in 1779 as part of the Nizhny Novgorod Viceroyalty. The general land-survey plan of Makaryevsky County was drawn up in 1785.
In 1796 the county was abolished; in 1802 it was restored.
By 1913 the county consisted of 20 volosts (rural districts).
In 1918 Voskresensky County was formed out of part of the territory of Makaryevsky County.
