hotel-strigino.nnov.ru was the website of the Strigino hotel and entertainment complex in Nizhny Novgorod, in the nnov.ru domain zone. Web Archive captures of this address span the period from 15 February 2003 to 17 January 2006[4]. The home page called the establishment "Hotel СТРИGИНО" — with the Latin letter G in place of the Cyrillic "Г" — and was signed with the line "Copyright(c) 2002 Aleksei Danilov"[1]. In the directory of the nn.ru portal, which was used to compile a census of defunct Nizhny Novgorod websites, the resource was listed as "Strigino Hotel and Entertainment Complex" — under the "Tourism, hotels, boarding houses" section, in two subcategories at once, "Hotels" and "Boarding houses, rest homes" (see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating).

What the site looked like

The home page preserved by the web archive was not a description of the hotel but a brief address to the visitor: five conditional phrases, each ending with the same promise. As the home page put it, "If tourism is the main line of your business, we are your partners"; the same turn of phrase was then used to list "conferences, meetings, congresses," the wish "to hold a wedding or celebration at a high level," the need "to accommodate your guests," and finally the case when "you simply want to rest from the hustle of the city, alone or with friends"[1].

That is where the surviving text ends: the preserved copy of the home page contains no address, no phone number, no prices, and no description of rooms or halls[1]. The five areas listed — tourism, business events, celebrations, guest accommodation, and out-of-town recreation — remain the only information about the complex's profile available from its own site.

Between February 2003 and December 2004 the text of the home page did not change by a single word: the snapshots from the two different years match verbatim, down to the author's signature and the year 2002 in the copyright line[1][2]. That is, the site stood unchanged for almost two years.

Its place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

The site did not earn a notable place in the Nizhny Novgorod Internet. In the surviving results table of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day vote for 2004, which lists candidates across all nominations along with vote counts, "Strigino" does not appear[3]. The address is also absent from the surviving rating tables of Counter.nn.ru: the site made it only into the directory listing, where its entry shows "Rating: none" instead of a position — neither a rank nor a visit count for it is recorded in our data (see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating). There are no counters or banner strips in the preserved text of the home page either[1].

Thus the site remained in the least visible layer of the Nizhny Novgorod web of the early 2000s: a short business-card page for the establishment, registered in a directory and leaving almost no other trace besides the archived copies and a line in the directory listing.

How it closed

The web archive accessed the address roughly a dozen and a half times; the last access is dated 17 January 2006[4]. There are no later copies, and no trace of a move to another domain — a redirect or an announcement of a new address — is recorded in the surviving snapshots[2]. In the census of closed Nizhny Novgorod sites, the address hotel-strigino.nnov.ru is listed as dead, with no successor indicated (see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating). Whether the hotel and entertainment complex itself continued operating after its site stopped being updated cannot be established from the available materials.
