Grigory Alekseyevich Rapota

Rapota, Grigory Alekseyevich (b. February 5, 1944) — Russian political figure, Lieutenant General of the FSB.

Biography

Born in Moscow into a military family. His father was a military officer and aviator; his mother had a background in education but, owing to her husband's profession, was compelled to work variously as a librarian, a savings-bank clerk, and a schoolteacher.

  • 1966 — graduated from the Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School with a specialization in design engineering.

Graduated from the Order of the Red Banner Institute of the KGB of the USSR.

  • 1966–1990 — served in the First Chief Directorate of the KGB (FCD, foreign intelligence), undertaking extended postings in the United States, Sweden, and Finland.
  • 1990–1994 — Deputy Head and then Head of Department, FCD.
  • 1994–1998 — Deputy Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia (SVR), overseeing the SVR's partnership relations with foreign intelligence agencies.
  • April–November 1998 — Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Russia.
  • November 1998–September 1999 — Director General of the state company Rosvooruzhenie.
  • September 1999–May 2000 — First Deputy Minister of Trade of Russia, responsible for military-technical cooperation.
  • June 2000–October 2001 — First Deputy Minister of Science, Industry, and Technology.
  • October 2001–October 2007 — Secretary General of the Eurasian Economic Community.
  • From October 9, 2007 — Presidential Envoy to the Southern Federal District.
