Zelenyy Town — a resort settlement in Kstovsky District, legally part of Nizhny Novgorod. It was formed in 1964 from settlements near the city of Kstovo, incorporated into the City of Gorky in 1969, and has been part of Nizhny Novgorod since 2004.
In the early Middle Ages, this forest served as the natural boundary between the Russian Nizhny Novgorod residents and the Zakudemskaya Mordva.
The settlement's population is 2,300 (2005).
Geographically, the settlement is located in Kstovsky District, 15 km south of Nizhny Novgorod, bounded to the northwest by the Moscow–Kazan and Nizhny Novgorod–Saratov highways, to the south by the Kudma River, and to the northeast and east by the Okskaya–Zeletsino railway.
Zelenyy Town occupies a surviving section of forest that as far back as the 13th century served as the natural boundary between the lands of the Russians and the Mordva. It is protected by the state as a natural monument.
The settlement hosts a large number of rest homes, sanatoria, boarding houses, and the residences of regional and city authorities. Construction of private residential homes is underway in the Rassvet settlement on the southern outskirts of Zelenyy Town.
A mineral water spring, "Gorkovskaya," is located here.
Zelenyy Town is served by the Royka railway station and by bus routes from Nizhny Novgorod and Kstovo.
Encephalitis-infected ticks are found in the forests of Zelenyy Town.
