German Aleksandrovich Sveshnikov (1937 – 2003) — Honoured Master of Sport of the USSR, two-time Olympic champion, eleven-time World champion, multiple European champion, champion of the USSR and of the RSFSR in foil fencing.
For many years he worked as a coach and instructor at the Nizhny Novgorod Region children's and youth sports school (DYuSSh) of fencing and was an active promoter of the Olympic movement.
Achievements
Awarded the Order of the Badge of Honour and the medal «For Labour Valour».
The title «Honorary Citizen of the City of Nizhny Novgorod» was conferred by decision of the City Duma of Nizhny Novgorod of 26 June 2002, No. 38.
