Rybny Lane — located in the Skoba area, between Kozhevennaya Street and the Nizhne-Volzhskaya Embankment. It runs from the embankment up to Verkhe-Zhivonosnovskaya Street. It takes its name from the fish ponds that were kept here in earlier times (including those of the Patriarch and the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolitan), as well as the Fresh Fish and Salt Fish rows of the Nizhniy Posad market.
The State Fish Office of the Kamer-Kollegiya. After the fire of 1819, in the course of the subsequent urban-planning transformation of this part of the city according to the design of A. A. Betancourt, they were demolished.
The first blocks of regular development were laid out beneath the Kremlin. The name Rybny was officially assigned to the lane only upon confirmation of the next development plan for Nizhny Novgorod in 1839.
