klinika.r52.ru is the site of the "Family Doctor Clinic" (Клиника семейного врача), a private outpatient clinic in Nizhny Novgorod. The domain belonged to the Nizhny Novgorod zone r52.ru, and the site entered our sample from the nn.ru catalog directory, listed with the description "Modern methods of diagnosis and treatment" (see Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating on the sample). As the home page reported, the clinic "has been providing its services on the market for over 2 years (since 1998)"[1]. Web-archive snapshots of the site are dated from March 1, 2001 to April 20, 2005[4].
What the site looked like
In the surviving text snapshots of the home page there is only one section — "About the company." The browser window title was built as "Klinika | o kompanii" ("Clinic | about the company")[1], meaning the page was part of a larger structure with sections, though no other sections survive in the snapshots. There was no postal address, no phone number, and no visitor-counter images on this page[1]. At the bottom stood a copyright notice, "© 2000 Family Doctor Clinic. All rights reserved," and a credit line: "Web design by Teamoty Brane Inc."[1]. The 2000 copyright mark, present already in the first archival snapshot from 2001, indicates the site was made before the web archive began preserving it.
Two snapshots taken eight months apart — March 28 and November 29, 2002 — match word for word[1][2]: the text of the home page did not change during that time. The site was a business card, not a working tool: the surviving text contains no appointment booking, no price list, and no news.
What the clinic offered
By its own description, the "Family Doctor Clinic" was, as the home page put it, "an outpatient medical institution combining, on a single site, a women's health clinic, a therapeutic diagnostic and treatment service, and an anonymous office for sexually transmitted diseases"[1]. In addition to staff specialists in these fields, narrow-specialty doctors were brought in for consultations — a urologist, an oncologist, a surgeon, an ear-nose-throat specialist, a neurologist, an endocrinologist, an andrologist; pediatric appointments were also held[1]. A set of services under one roof plus an anonymous office is a hallmark of late-1990s private medicine: the clinic offered a full path from a women's health consultation to a narrow specialist without the patient having to move between institutions.
The laboratory
More than half of the home page's text was devoted to describing the laboratory. It, as the site claimed, "has no equivalent in the city, since clinical, biochemical, and immunological studies are concentrated on a single site"[1]. Listed were assessment of the microscopic state of the skin and mucous membranes, the enzymatic activity of the gastrointestinal organs, hormonal levels in men and women, and detection of bacteria and viruses causing sexually transmitted diseases[1]. Separately mentioned were enzyme-linked immunoassay, said to allow "early diagnosis of malignant processes," and tests for viral diseases said to make it possible to "predict disorders of fetal intrauterine development in the early stages of pregnancy"[1]. The mention of "the city" is the only geographic reference on the page: the home page named neither a street nor a district for the clinic.
Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet
The site belonged to the first generation of Nizhny Novgorod corporate pages in the r52.ru zone, but it was not a notable participant in local online life. It does not appear in our preserved samples of the Counter.nn.ru rating — it entered our census from a catalog, not from the counter, and no visitor-traffic data was recorded for it. It also does not appear in the surviving results table of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day vote for 2004, klinika.r52.ru[3], although other sites of this zone are represented there — for example, riann.r52.ru and dom.r52.ru[3]. For a medical institution of that time this is an ordinary state of affairs: the site was made once as a statement about itself, not for a place in the Nizhny Novgorod Internet.
How it closed
The last snapshot of the home page in the web archive is dated April 20, 2005; the archival index lists fourteen captures in total for this address[4]. There are no notices of relocation, address change, or closure on the surviving pages: the site simply stopped updating and disappeared from the index. According to our check, the domain klinika.r52.ru is not registered today and does not redirect anywhere, and of the site's content we have on hand only two identical snapshots of the "About the company" page from 2002.
