etalon.nnov.ru was the website of the Nizhny Novgorod group of companies "Etalon" ("Standard"), which repaired, calibrated, serviced and sold measuring instruments. The head office was located in Nizhny Novgorod at 67 Osharskaya Street, with a second address in Dzerzhinsk at 70 Lenin Avenue[1]. In the Counter.nn.ru directory the site was listed under the name "CJSC firm Etalon-R"[3]. The web archive preserved the home page from January 9, 2003 to October 15, 2025[5].
What the home page looked like
The home page was arranged as a single-page business card. The header carried the heading "Etalon Group of Companies — repair, calibration and servicing of measuring instruments" and the caption "group of companies"; next to it was a script clock displaying the current day of the week, date, month and time[1]. Right there, before the main text, came the contacts: two city addresses, the email etalon@etalon.nnov.ru and two phone numbers with the Nizhny Novgorod code — +7 (831) 428-40-12 captioned "repair service phone" and +7 (831) 278-43-01 captioned "sales department phone"[1].
Below were three blocks of business lines that worked as site navigation: "metering unit dispatching" — a service the company provided "in partnership with CJSC Eldis"; "Repair / Calibration" — "the full range of repair, calibration, installation and maintenance work for measuring instruments"; "sales" — "a network of specialized stores selling measuring instruments, Mir Izmereniy [World of Measurements]"[1].
The page closed with a disclaimer and a footer repeating the contacts. As the home page stated, "the information posted on our website is not a public offer," and customers were invited to check prices and availability of goods with managers[1]. In the footer, a second phone number 422-51-71 was added to the Nizhny Novgorod address, and the numbers 25-29-31 and 23-05-72 to the Dzerzhinsk one; the last line was a "website creation" link[1]. No visit counters are visible in the archived text of the page[1].
What the company did
The firm described itself as follows: "a modern company, founded on the basis of the Nizhny Novgorod Etalon Plant and successfully operating in the Russian market of measuring instruments for more than 40 years"[1]. The list of work on the home page was backed up by the details of licensing documents: a license for the manufacture and repair of measuring instruments No. 005996-R dated January 22, 2010, and accreditation for the right to perform calibration dated March 19, 2014, No. ROSS RU.0001.310349[1]. It was separately noted that in early 2013 Etalon-R LLC received SRO certificate No. 2667.01-2013-5262243521-C-049 authorizing certain types of work[1].
Besides repair and calibration, the company claimed to supply control-and-measuring instruments of domestic and foreign manufacture, ties with manufacturing plants in Russia and neighboring countries, and, from March 2011, dealer and service center status for OJSC Arzamas Instrument-Making Plant named after P. I. Plandin[1]. Its own resources were listed as a network of specialized instrumentation and automation (KIPiA) stores in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and an electrical engineering laboratory for the repair and calibration of measuring instruments[1].
Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet
The site entered our census from the directory of the Nizhny Novgorod catalog, where the "CJSC firm Etalon-R" card described a noticeably broader profile than the later home page: "Repair, testing and sale of instrumentation, automation equipment (KIP) and other measuring instruments. Design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of security and fire alarm systems. Video surveillance. Access control systems. Intercoms"[3]. By the late 2010s only measuring instruments remained from this list on the site — the security and fire-safety line had disappeared from the home page[1].
Almost no popularity figures for the site have survived: in the available samples of the Counter.nn.ru rating, no visit figure at all is recorded for etalon.nnov.ru[3]. The domain does not appear in the surviving results table of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day vote of 2004[4]. This is the usual fate of a corporate business-card site: such sites lived not on audience but on the phone number on the first screen, and took almost no part in the contests and ratings of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet (see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating).
How it closed
The site did not so much close as stop. The home-page snapshots from September 15, 2019 and January 17, 2024 match word for word: the only difference between them is the reading on the script clock in the header[2]. This means the content of the business card had not changed in more than four years: the most recent dates in the text are the 2014 accreditation and the 2013 SRO certificate[1].
In total, the web archive index lists 80 captures of the home page at etalon.nnov.ru; the first is dated January 9, 2003, and the last October 15, 2025[5]. When domains were surveyed for this census, etalon.nnov.ru was marked as inactive. How the story of the group of companies itself ended does not follow from the archival materials.
