Dombrovsky P. A. — Provincial Architect, active in the early twentieth century. He is best known as the designer of the Nizhny Novgorod Cathedral Mosque.
Design of the Cathedral Mosque
In 1908, the Muslim community of Starosoldatskaya Sloboda formed a committee to construct a Mohammedan mosque in the Upper Part of Nizhny Novgorod. That same year, the governorate architect P. A. Dombrovsky was commissioned to develop the design. The project was executed in the Islamic architectural style.
After official permission was granted in 1910, construction began, and in the summer of 1913 the foundation stone was laid. The mosque was ceremonially opened on 20 March 1915, becoming the city's second mosque after the Yarmarka Mosque. The building subsequently received the status of a cultural heritage site of the peoples of the Russian Federation of federal significance.
