Day of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet (DNI) — an annual celebration of the Nizhny Novgorod internet community, held from 1999 to 2017 by NN.RU, the publisher of the city website of the same name. The central event of the celebration was the awarding of winners of the "personality contest": "stars" were chosen from the twenty most-visited forums of nn.ru, with separate nominations such as "Most Respected Professional" and "Most Pleasant Conversationalist". The last, eighteenth Day of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet took place on December 9, 2017, at the "Festa Hall" restaurant in the "Hanza" shopping center; the celebration has not been held since.[1]
NN.RU users with the largest support groups are awarded "NN.RU Stars" and valuable prizes from sponsors (such as a laptop).
The Essence of the Phenomenon
A Special Olympics that boosts the self-esteem of novice internet users (from one to three years of experience). It promotes ideas of leisure and business contacts on the NN.RU website.

The central event of DNI was traditionally a contest of Nizhny Novgorod websites with public voting (web, e-mail, and SMS). The celebration's website, internet.nn.ru, kept only the current year's results, so only fragments survived in the web archive; below is what the snapshots confirm. 2004
The contest ran in two categories. "Best Corporate Website" (voting leaders): "April Service" (April.nnov.ru) — 159 votes; the Information Technology Laboratory (itl.nnov.ru) — 142; "Dental Studio" (dentals.ru) — 127.[2] "Best Personal Website": "Nizhny Novgorod Extreme on the Internet" (extreme.nnov.ru) — 156; the quintet "Black Dog" (blackdog.nnov.ru) — 114; the Well photo project (well.nn.ru) — 109; "A Network for the Life-Lover" (anisnn.ru) — 93.[2]
2005
DNI took place on December 18, 2005, in the format of a friendly get-together. The winners of the personality contest were Blokhin, Drynych, and Loshad; the site contest was won by "Auto Repair Equipment by KANT-AVTO" and UnRacing Club.[3]
Materials for 2012–2013 on the celebration's website were published in Flash and are unreadable in the archive; laureate lists for the remaining years were not preserved in the web archive.
