Kostarikha is a settlement and railway station in Kanavino District, between Moscow Highway and Beryozovsky Settlement. The name may derive from the word kostar' — a cheat who makes a living by crooked dice games (Dal, 1979) — either a nickname or a characterization of the first settler. In the early twentieth century the name was often written as Kustarikha and linked to the cottage crafts (kustarnye promysly) that the village's inhabitants supposedly pursued instead of playing dice.
