spektr.nnov.ru was the website of a Nizhny Novgorod construction company called "Spektr," active from the early 2000s. The firm was founded in 1999 and, as its home page stated, had "worked in the Nizhny Novgorod market for 3 years," offering "a full range of services related to apartment fitting-out"[1]. The site was listed in the nn.ru directory — a directory of Nizhny Novgorod websites — under the section "Firms (Enterprises): Construction," and carried a Counter.nn.ru counter numbered 3015[3]. The earliest snapshot of the home page in the web archive is dated June 8, 2002[1], and the latest is dated March 3, 2011[6].
What the site looked like
The home page was built as a company business card: a horizontal menu with sections "about the firm," "services," "prices," "contacts," "our projects," "prospects," and, alongside it, three lines of work: "cottage construction and exterior finishing," "interior finishing," and "bathroom renovation and decorative finishing" (spelling as in the original)[1]. Most of the page was taken up by the "about the firm" text — an address to the customer promising "to shield our clients from problems related to renovation work as much as possible," phrased with the formula typical of business sites of that era: "The success of any construction depends on the coordinated and well-organized actions both of the one who builds and the one who pays"[1]. The text was signed: "General Director I. V. Zakharov"[1]. The page closed with the slogan "Spektr Construction Company — the best solution for private housing"[1].
By the second surviving snapshot, taken on July 6, 2006, the set of sections had changed: instead of "services" there were now "design and planning" and "construction and finishing," and the third line of work, instead of bathroom renovation, was "premises reconstruction"[2]. The description of the firm had also expanded: it now offered "a full range of services related to reconstruction and turnkey renovation of any premises of any complexity and any form of ownership," and claimed "any type of design, construction, electrical, and plumbing work"[2]. By 2006 the page itself was no longer being updated: the stated length of operation was "5 years," while the date at the bottom still read "1999-2004"[2] — meaning the last edit dated to roughly 2004. The company's address and phone numbers lived on a separate "contacts" page, which was not captured in any surviving snapshot.
Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet
In the nn.ru directory the company was described in a single line: "Construction of buildings, cottages. Renovation and reconfiguration of apartments, offices, shops, premises of any complexity. Delivery of construction materials"[3]. The listing appeared in two categories at once. In "Building Materials," in a snapshot from September 8, 2002, the site ranked fourth in the rating-sorted list, with a score of 35 — behind the companies "MK-Lyuks" (98), "Promkraski" (64), and OOO "Perlit" (39)[3]. In the "Finishing and Interior Work" category, in a snapshot from August 30, 2003, "Spektr" held third place with a score of 63, behind the construction company "Striot" (140) and OOO SK "Biospul" (69)[4]. This is a solid middle position within the Nizhny Novgorod Internet of the early 2000s: the site of a small firm that lived not on search rankings but on a line in a city directory and a counter by which it was found by its neighbors in the category (for more on the methodology, see the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating).
In the surviving results table of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day vote for 2004, the site does not appear[5]; nor does it appear in the summary counter samples that made it into our archive — the awards-and-rankings life of the city network passed it by.
How it closed
After 2006 the content of the home page no longer changed, and the domain itself gradually fell out of use. The last snapshot of the site in the web archive is dated March 3, 2011[6]; today nothing loads at spektr.nnov.ru. Our records contain no information indicating that the company moved its site to another domain.
