The Great Consecration of the central altar of the Church of the Theophany of the Lord in the selo of Bogoyavleniye, Dalnekostantinovsky District, took place on August 14, 2026. The Church of the Theophany is a regional landmark of history and culture, erected in 1826 with funds raised by parishioners in memory of Russia's victory in the Patriotic War of 1812.[1][2]

History of the church

The church was built in 1826 and dedicated to the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812.[1] The original interior decoration of the Church of the Theophany has not survived to the present day.[1] In 2013, the church was granted the status of a The Convent of the Exaltation of the Cross of Nizhny Novgorod.[1][2]

Restoration

Restoration work at the church began in late 2022.[1] In preparation for the consecration, the side chapels dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker and to the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos were made ready. Going forward, the church plans to continue painting the refectory and the right and left side chapels, as well as to commission lateral iconostases.[1] Volunteers and participants in the Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region program were involved in landscaping the surrounding grounds.[2]

The 2026 Consecration

The Rite of the Great Consecration of the central altar was performed by Metropolitan George.[2] The event coincided with several commemorative dates at once: the 200th anniversary of the completion of the church's construction, the 180th anniversary of the consecration of its central altar, and the 1,700th anniversary of Georgia's adoption of Orthodox Christianity.[1]
