citron.nnov.ru was the website of the Nizhny Novgorod-based Citron group of companies, a manufacturer of food and industrial packaging. As the 2007 home page stated, the group's enterprises were located "in the territory of Nizhny Novgorod, as well as the Nizhny Novgorod Region, in the city of Bor," with a representative office operating in Moscow[1]. The earliest snapshot of the address preserved in the web archive is dated 6 August 2002, the latest — 17 June 2008[3].

The group's website in 2007

In May 2007 the home page presented Citron as a union of enterprises: the menu consisted of the sections "Group of Companies," "Management Company," "Plastic Packaging," "Cardboard Packaging," "Moscow Representative Office," as well as "Home," "History," "Awards," and a search form[1]. The text opened with the claim that the group had "been well known in Russian business circles for more than 14 years"[1].

Three main lines of business were named: manufacturing packaging from rigid polymer films (Citron-Plast LLC), manufacturing full-color cardboard packaging (Citron-Print LLC), and residential construction[1]. The Moscow representative office was listed as Citron-Pak LLC[1]. The caption at the bottom of the page read "© 2007 Citron"[1].

Change of content: Citron-Plast, 2008

By June 2008 the same address no longer hosted the group's general website but the page of a single enterprise — Citron-Plast LLC, with a menu of "About the Company," "News," "Awards," "Products," "Articles," "Certificates," "Contacts," "Moscow Office," a search function, and a site map[2]. The copyright notice had been updated to "© 2008 Citron-Plast"[2].

As the home page stated, the enterprise had been founded on 18 November 1991 and produced food and industrial packaging from rigid PVC and PET films; in addition, the plant carried out metallization and cutting of films, packaging design and construction development, and the design and modernization of process equipment[2]. Separately mentioned were the company's own design bureau, a design studio, and a tooling-manufacturing section, with the product range estimated at more than 3,000 items[2].

Certification occupied a prominent place in the text: production was described as organized according to HACCP standards, with an annual audit since 2003[2]. Among its regular clients the page listed "NESTLE," the Rossiya confectionery association (Samara), "Obedinennye Konditery" with its Rot Front, Krasny Oktyabr, and Babaevsky factories, the Slavyanka factory (Stary Oskol), "KraftFoodsRus," the SladKo confectionery association, the Volzhanka factory (Ulyanovsk), Kyiv-Konti, and the Mechta factory[2]. The text ended with an advertising-toned list of "what the company has" — equipment, floor space, staff, designers, a quality-control service, warehouses, and delivery[2]. Neither an address nor a phone number appears on the preserved snapshots of the home page — only the menu items "Contacts" and "Moscow Office" lead to them, and those pages themselves are absent from our material[2].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

The site belonged to that layer of the Nizhny Novgorod Internet that consisted not of forums and news feeds but of corporate representations of local manufacturers: a showcase, history, awards, certificates, contacts. In our census it is noted as found in the directory listing of the nn.ru catalog, with a description enumerating the firm's packaging lines.

The address does not appear in the preserved samples of the Counter.nn.ru counter, so its traffic cannot be judged from the data of the Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating. The site is not listed in the final voting table of the 2004 Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day[4]. Judging by the surviving material, this site was not seeking public response at all: it was addressed to wholesale packaging buyers, not to a city audience.

How it closed

The last snapshot of citron.nnov.ru in the web archive is dated 17 June 2008; in total the web archive index lists 23 records for this address[3]. In our census the domain is marked as dead, with no record of a move to another address. What became of the group's enterprises themselves after 2008 cannot be said from the available material: only two preserved home pages remain — that of the group of companies and that of Citron-Plast[1][2].
