Nesterov Arkady Aleksandrovich (1918–1999) — composer, rector of the Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory named after M. I. Glinka, People's Artist of the RSFSR, Honored Arts Worker of the RSFSR, the Chuvash ASSR, and the Mordovian ASSR. Author of the music for the operas The Cranes Are Flying, The Shepherd and the Shepherdess, Kuzma Minin (operatic fragment), and the music for the ballet Timur and His Squad. He was elected a deputy to the Gorky City and Regional Soviets of People's Deputies for several terms.
Achievements
Awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class, the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, and various medals.
The title of "Honorary Citizen of the City of Nizhny Novgorod" was conferred by resolution of the Nizhny Novgorod City Soviet of People's Deputies dated April 24, 1991, No. 4/6.
