3apelsina.nn.ru was the site of the Nizhny Novgorod advertising agency "Three Oranges" ("Три апельсина"), which existed in the nn.ru zone from 2002 to the mid-2000s. As the home page stated, the agency "conducts advertising campaigns in Nizhny Novgorod," and for contact it listed a Nizhny Novgorod phone number, 63-75-78, and a separate line for calls from Moscow[1]. The site was a single business-card page and barely changed over the years: the 2005 snapshot repeats the 2002 one word for word[2].

What the home page looked like

The page opened with the name "3 apelsina" ("3 Oranges") and a slogan playing on the citrus metaphor: "Harmony of form, color and taste — the perfection of nature"[1]. The slogan was followed by an advertising syllogism explaining the meaning of the agency's work: "To eat an orange, you need to buy it. To buy an orange, you need to know everything about it"[1].

The site's menu consisted of just three items, repeated twice on the page — "Media planning," "Creative," "Placement"[1]. Only the first of them was elaborated: the home page gave an example of saving advertising budget — "sometimes the audiences of two media outlets offered to you overlap by 99%, and by placing your advertising in only one of them, you will save your budget by no less than a factor of 2!!! (for the same audience reach)"[1]. The surviving snapshots contain no portfolio, no client list, and no price list — the site was limited to a declaration of services and contact information.

Contacts and hosting

At the bottom of the page was the signature "Agency 'Three Oranges,' Nizhny Novgorod" with two phone numbers: the local 63-75-78 and the Moscow 8-901 477-75-78[1]. The listed email address contained a typo in its own domain — info@3aplelsina.nn.ru instead of 3apelsina — and the error persisted in the 2005 snapshot as well, meaning it had been on the home page for at least two and a half years[2]. The site published no office postal address, company details, or employee names.

The third-level domain in the nn.ru zone indicated hosting with a local provider: once the site ceased to exist, its address returned a service page reading "NN.RU — The Best Hosting for Companies in Nizhny Novgorod," with the phone numbers (8312) 19-77-99 and 19-97-84[3].

Place in the Nizhny Novgorod internet

"Three Oranges" was listed in the nn.ru directory's rubricator with the description "Media planning, creative, placement… Conducting advertising campaigns in Nizhny Novgorod," from where the site's card carried over into our Archival study of the Nizhny Novgorod internet from the counter.nn.ru rating: in the summary it corresponds to a Counter.nn.ru rating figure of 65, and zero votes at the Nizhny Novgorod Internet Day in 2004. This was a typical position for a corporate business card: the site served as a means of a firm's presence in the Nizhny Novgorod Internet, not as a standalone resource that people vote for or visit for its content.

How it closed

The last known snapshot of the working site is dated April 25, 2005 — the page on it is the same as in 2002[2]. By June 2007 the address was returning the hosting provider's placeholder page: "The address you requested points to this server, but no resource with that name was found"[3]. The last snapshot in the Web Archive is dated June 7, 2007, and contains only this placeholder[3]. The domain 3apelsina.nn.ru no longer exists, and no information about the agency moving to another address has survived.
